Good Morning All,
DISCLAIMER : I know that any information I receive is not legally binding, I just need a general direction.
I aspire to a freelance design career path. I have started a business in New York City using the "LLC" corporate structure. I was wondering if this is the best structure. Or does anyone have experience in start-ups in New York City.
Right now I am a one-person shop working out of my home, endeavoring to offer web design and other online design services.
I would be grateful for any suggestions from anyone who has gone this route, particullarly the native NYCers among us.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Max :D

S corp is probably going to be a better choice, but you really should consult with an attorny on it.

I Know, I know, I don't have the $ for an attorney right now (un less you have ideas on getting free or low cost consultation). I just want suggestions, especially from those who have done it already in my area of the country.
But Thank you for responding ;) .

Thank you Morea,
Many Ham sandwiches to you. And if you don't eat pork, Many T-Bone steaks to you. and if you don't eat meat at all... A bucket of Tofu to you... Now, if you don't eat at all and anorexia is your thing then, hmm, if you're easy on the eyes, you might want to see about getting on the cover of Cosmo... :)
But seriously, thanks. I'm sure I'll have more questions so stay tuned...

check with your local Chamber of Commerce.
There are groups there that can help you with starting a business. Ours was called "SCORE" - I forget what the acronym was for, but it was a group of retired entrepreneurs who would meet with you and advise you about your progress.
I met with them a few times, and it was free... doesn't hurt to ask!

File for assumed named. In MN only $25 not sure about NY. Then it locks in your business name. In the future you can file for LLC or C.

See if there is a local SCORE in your neighborhood. They can help you with this and other startup issues.
