I've got 3000 images that I need to cut out of the background and add a drop shadow to. I understand action script & batch in Photoshop but can this be done to beads (which are all different shapes, sizes, colours that sometimes tend to blend into the background preventing the selection tool from picking up the edges properly)???

You might be out of luck unfortunately. 3000 images?! Ugh. That sounds like a lot of work by hand. Maybe you can separate the images into sub folders of shapes, colors and sizes and see if you can't create a batch action for each subcategory (run separately of course.) Just an idea. Of course that might not work either.

Yea, when using the selection tool (adjusting the tolerance) seems to not work all that well and selects different areas, for each image so I guess I am S.O.L.
Thank gawd for my Wacom.

Heard of Fluid Mask (http://www.vertustech.com/)?
Might help, because 3000 images seems like a LOT to do by hand. I had 200 to do and I was complaining about that.
I haven't ever used fluid mask, but it seems like it works pretty well?

Yeah, I'd search for Photoshop Plug-Ins and pay a hundred or twohundred dollars instead of pulling your hair out.
