Hello. I have a client who is wanting me to draw up a proposal for creating designs for the t-shirts he is wanting to sell. Instead of charging a fee per t-shirt, I was going to charge a percentage of each t-shirt he sells.

My question is without working with him in an office on a daily basis, how do I know when and how many t-shirts he actually does sell to make sure I'm receiving the right compensation? Is there a specific clause I should put in our initial contract that would help incase he's not accurately reporting back to me? I just want to make sure I protect myself and my designs before I enter into any type of agreement.

Any help someone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Summer

There's no actual way of telling unless you request to see the books. I would charge him a fee per design, along with a royalty fee (%) per shirt sold.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like a good idea, but I was going to only charge a percentage since I can't figure out a good design fee for the t-shirt. I know we can't talk prices on the forum, so do you happen to know a good website where I can look for suggested pricing information?

Thanks!
