Hi, i dont actually have quark but we get files through to send off to get printed and they need to have the fonts outlined.

How do you do this in Quark? i know how to do it in illustrator but no one seems to know how to do it on quark.

Any Ideas??
Cheers
Neil

I've never heard of such a thing. (Doesn't mean that it doesn't exist - though it would be a separate plug-in.) Perhaps they mean that any text within an eps file needs to be outlined since collecting for output will not collect fonts used by the eps files unless they're used within the layout in Quark.
The bass-ackwards thing to do would be to save each page as an eps file, open in Illy, outline the fonts, and place back into a blank Quark file as a picture. Seems like more hassle than it could possibly be worth though.
As long as you include your fonts with the Quark file, shouldn't be much of an issue.

You sort of can, but it sucks.

You have to select your text (with the content tool, not just the box) and then choose style/text to box (while holding down the option key ... which is very important, otherwise without holding down option it duplicates your text.)

Or, similar to Virgo's suggestion, create a PDF of your Quark file. Open the PDF in acrobat, save as .eps files and under the "more options" button, make sure you've selected" convert all text to outlines. Then place all the .eps files back in Quark one page at a time.

Or, lastly, see if your vendor would accept a print ready PDF, and create that through Distiller.

Oh, and then Quark apparently can't remember if you had any color applied to your text, so you'll have to recolor all of your newly outlined text.

Fun, right?

You can convert "text to box" in Quark.
I wouldn't recommend it.

What do you do for work that you get files in Quark to 'send through'?
If handling client files, it's best to handle them in the format they were created in. And where Quark is involved, using the same exact version too. LOL.

If dealing regularly with Quark files it may be in the best interests of your business to pony up the cash to buy it.

Edit: I wouldn't recommend outlining fonts, especially for anything other than 3 or 4 words on a single page. Definitely NOT for outlining whole brochures or many-word or multi-page docs.

We used to have the same issue. I would get Quark files that needed to be converted. So I exported the EPS file and opened it in ILLY and then converted it to outlines. Funny thing was that most of the work was done in Illy to begin with and the text dropped into it in Quark. They just made extra work for themselves and me.

EDIT: Have the client give you the files the way YOU can alter them and get them ready for print. That would be the more sufficient way.

The OP doesn't have Quark.

Also saving massive amounts of text in eps then opening in Illy can cause wonderous things to happen. In Illy the text becomes 'point text' and on occasion you will see elements of the text seriously misplaced.

And images are cropped to box and embedded. That makes it extremely difficult to relink them. Our specs request no embedded images. Not to mention it becomes one hellaciously big file...

I'd never seen/heard of the "text-to-box" thing. Learn somethin' new every day. Though it sounds like I'd never want to use it anyway. lol...
