lookign for some good fonts that evoke a sense of japan without appearing to look like a dodgy chinese takeaway sign...
been through dafont, cant see anythin worthwhile, any suggestions?

Check out the ITC and Lintoype wesites. They both have fonts that might fit the bill. Adobe also has a wide variety of decorative fonts, and several have that "oriental" look. (I'm assuming that's what you're looking for, not an actual Japanese font.)

Most of the fonts are completly free and you might find one or two interesting Asian fonts.
