Having trouble with tools not functioning as they should. For instance while trying to duplicate objects around an axis, I get nothing. Anybody have any suggestions?

Um...I believe the 'alt' key duplicates objects. Hold down and drag. But...if you need to rotate it on axis...damn. I forgot. And I'm not on my design machine.

If you're using the Mirror tool (or is it Reflect? I forget...) make sure you hit 'Copy' instead of just 'OK.' Otherwise, all you're doing is flipping the object, not duplicating it.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. 8)

But I could have sworn there was a faster way to duplicate multiple objects on axis using the mouse...I remember doing a tutorial a looooooong time ago duplicating petals on a flower...

(curses his bad memory)

Hey, I didn't know you could do that, but I looked it up and found that REDeye is right.
For example, to create a flower:
1. Draw your petal.
2. Select the Rotate tool (R).
3. Hold down Alt(PC)/Opt(Mac) and click on the anchor point on the 'petal' which would be in the center of the flower.
4. Enter a value, like 30 degrees, and Copy.
5. Ctrl(PC)/Cmd(Mac)+D to repeat the copy/rotate process.
6. Repeat step 5 until the flower is complete.

That is so cool and I thank you for that, REDeye. I always used to manually create stuff like that.
