I am looking for a wide screen LCD screen made especially for graphic design work. I have read that the best screen is a CRT but the widest I can buy is 19" and then it takes up all my desk. I have researched some LCDs and suppliers say that the higher resolution the better.

All you graphic designers out there with LCD screens or experience buying screens (monitors for graphic design) please help.

1. What is the best resolution for graphic design in an LCD?
2. What is the best screen size for the same e.g. 22"?
3. Would you recommend an LCD over a CRT?
4. Any other thoughts that would help me?

Many thanks
Bruce

The illustrator Kevin Husley has some great tutorials on his website, including a step through for calibrating a monitor. In that section he also discusses monitors in general, and may adress some of your questions:

"If you are still working with a CRT "tube" monitor, stop. Unless you spent a small fortune on a Barco Reference Monitor & Color Reference Calibrator, you will be amazed at the difference in sharpness, clarity, color accuracy, and "flicker free" eye-strain relief that comes with a good flat panel monitor as compared to any CRT monitor. Additionaly, the curved screen on a CRT monitor gives off a lot of distracting reflections."

If you are going to get an LCD for graphic design I'd go for a higher end model that is meant for TV use, but has computer inputs too. Some of the purely computer monitors do not display all colors too well.

As far as screen size/resulotion thats a matter of budget and personal taste as far as I'm concerned.
