Hi I've heard of a plug in for Quark Xpress (6.52 Mac) for vector files such as Freehand etc, so that when files are imported you get crisp looking graphics rather than scraggly (yes that is the technical term) images/vectors that you can't really view properly i.e the preview is really low resolution. I'm importing Freehand .eps files.
Has anybody heard of such a plug in?
I've googled it but can't seem to find anything, and i've got a job in at the moment where the freehand files really need to be viewed in QuarkXpress clearly without having to jump in and out of Freehand.
Thanks.

You can download the Hi-res Preview Xtension for free directly from Quark.
It still kinda sux for viewing placed eps images though.

Thanks for that i'm actually running that plug in at the moment, though i don't really notice that much of a difference when its turned on. I could really use one for the manky eps previews.

I am baffled by that plugin. I've heard for the last couple of years about Quark's hires plugin and now I have it. I've got Quark 7 on an Intel Mac with hires turned up all the time and I'd be damn if it all looks lores to me. I see no difference at all with it on or off.

If i have picture work that really could do with higher res previews I usually just turn it into a 16 bit image which although sends the file size through the roof it looks great when imported into Quark. I thought maybe I could do something similar with Freehand???

yeah Jim, I haven't noticed a difference when using it either. On or off. I'd always assumed it was the scale I was working in. You know how Quack is about sending what it thinks is 'non-essential' information... LOL.

Watch out using 16bit if your work goes to offset printers. I've never had success running 16bit images through our workflow. Freehand is a vector program, I don't think you have an option to convert to 16bit???

I've worked with Quark for years and like the program even though InDesign has the lead. The problems with Quark is its preview, funky support with creating and placing pdfs and it crashes alot on my Intel Mac. I have to toss the prefs and do the permissions thing all the time.
