I have been sent logo as a picture on a word document to use by a client.

I can drag it straight off the word document into new Illustrator and photoshop documents. When I print it from these documents on my desktop printer they appear to be of sufficient quality to reproduce well when commercially printed.

Ultimately they will be placed in InDesign, my question is:

Is photoshop or illustrator the better programme to save the logo and what format/s would you advise.

Thanks
P.

AFAIK it would make no difference. the image when inserted into word usually ends up being a 72 dpi jpg... which is ok for a desktop printer but not brilliant when printed properly. If quality of print is going to be an issue you would be better off asking for the logo in an eps or tiff format... or at least a 150-300 dpi jpg...

Actually, I can usually get better image detail out of Word from a $20 desktop inkjet than I can from a standard commercial press--or even a true postscript screened colour laser.

It's knowing how it's handled by Word and the printer that makes the difference.

Ok thanks Cap'n.
The logo is going to be one of five all lined up at the end of the piece of work. I'm sure you know what I mean and will be quite small. Don't you just hate it when you have to put these mandatory logos on work—I do.

I don't know why people put images into a word document to send to me. Why not put the picture into an email so I don't have to extract the file? It's a nuisance since we don't have word here and have to email someone to pdf it as a favour.

Photoshop will be better IMO.
