Ok, so Im taking this class called Digital Tools. We started working with Photoshop moved to Illustrator and now we are playing around in Flash.

One of our projects was to create a reproduction of a kandinsky image using illustrator. Mine is below.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/cmontfort/CPM-2p1d.jpg

Then, also in Illustrator, we needed to use the pieces created in our reproduction to make something completely different.

So I made this:

Now Finally, in Flash we need to construct the image we made using the pieces from the kandinsky in flash. So this is my work in progress:

Work in Progress (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/cmontfort/proj.swf)

So what do you guys think? Obviously not my favorite kind of assignment, no real attention to actual design just learn the motions of the programs.

I don't like the big pin/grey/purple circle that eventuates as a well on the cart. It's too big and distracting. The right side of the "painting" is wonderful.

Great idea for a project. It's still creative, but within a reasonably tight scope that can be compared easily.

This is something I did for the same class, the assignment prior was to take pictures in the area for use later. So once we had the pictures we were given 3 words that we had to produce 3 images for each describing one word. The word for this one:

Lugubrious: mournful, dismal, or gloomy, especially to an exaggerated or ludicrous degree.

Budapist, yea, I agree about the wheel. I wish I could have changed it before I had handed it in... *sigh* you win some... you loose some...

I dig your kandinksy reproduction. big fan of his stuff. However, your flash animation is painfully slow.. to the point of boredom almost. You have each element coming in sequencial order, and they arent doing anything very interesting except the umbrella sprouting out of the cart. How about having multiple elements come in at the same time and interact with eachother. Also, in flash, think of terms in not just up down and left and right, but also perspective. The 3rd dimension. have things start really small and slow in the distant background and make them zoom up close. Or start them off extremely large and transparent over the foreground and have them zoom and sherink onto the canvas while fading in. Good work though for learning, definately would have beat most of the people in my old flash class.

I agree with the speed of the flash being too slow and boring...maybe more than one element can be moving at the same time!

Yea I definitely agree about the speed. Our teacher gave us a time constrant that we need to fit into so I am first trying go over that limit (by a lot) and then speeding things up later so it all fits within the time constraint. I did a lot of work on it between yesterday and today. I'll upload another instance of it later after I get back from the printers (printing out class portfolios today). I have to get it done by Friday. So before then you'll see the finished project.

Oooh I'm jealous! I wish I'd had classes like this. I went for science rather than art at Uni level (partly due to pressure from the olds saying you can do art in your spare time) So my classes were all relativistic quantum mechanics and equations that went on forever. Luckily I have no regrets and have been able to come back to the art, but when I hear of these class projects you guys get to do, I think i would have had a lot of fun. I really like the Kandinsky image you did.

Thanx Frankster! yea the clases are good because they teach you different ways of thinking of problems. However, this is the 3rd Photoshop class i've taken and I've been using the Adobe Suite for almost 10 years now so I get bored every once in a while. Im glad that flash got thrown into the mix. Even though I have used Director (almost the same thing).

Im also lucky that my mom doesnt care what I do in college as long as I get a degree. Which better be soon I turn 24 in Feb *yikes*
sigh... its my own fault i take my time with everything i do... lol

the quantum mechanics and equations bit sounds like what I like doing in my spare time... lol im no math buff but I love theory and reading/seeing what ever i can on science type stuff.

Just to give you an idea of the soul destruction that a lot of people felt in the nuclear physics lectures, here's a photo I took during one in 1998. No idea who it was that had written the chalk above the board, but the lecturer was oblivious, so I thought it warranted a snap shot... can you tell that he's just about to tell me to put my camera away and concentrate on the lecture? :D

Thanx Danger_Mouse! Here's the finished Animation: I need to tweak it and fix timing and everything but thought this would be a good point to show an update.

See the finished, but not completed, animation here... (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/cmontfort/proj-1.swf)

Thanx Urst! Im gonna start working on speed and various other issues now. Hopefully it'll be much better the next time I show it! -= )

It doesn't seem like this piece is created with internet application in mind - more of just an in-class viewing?

If that's the case, turn your FPS up.

Also - to agree with what was said above, I absolutely love your reinterpretation of the kandinsky - except that cart / umbrella. The grass is lacking as well - but the cart needs to be rethought imo.

Thanx 100ST! I agree that a couple of things need to be reworked. I wish I was allowed to continue working on that image but it's already been handed in and I need to make the flash emulate it. And Yes, its for in-class viewing.

Now, the time I've been waiting for. I AM DONE! Here's my final version of my flash project for class. Im going to sit on it for tonight and view it once or twice more before I burn it to CD and hand it in, so if anyone has any crits (other than changing the way the final image already looks) I would love to hear what everyone has to say!

So come on in, check it out, let me know what you think... (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/cmontfort/proj-2.swf)
