Hello
I'm currently making a DVD for a company, I've finished the design and I just need to put the official DVD logo on there.
Currently I have on set, but I am worried about copyright issues regarding this logo.
Anyone know about this?
Thanks.

shouldn't be any copyright issues involved if the company is having this printed and distributed, but double check with them.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but that logo is licensed. It can only be used if your DVD is being mass produced and there are certain rules that apply. A licensing fee would probably be required in any case.
Here's a link to the company that handles the licensing and their rules: DVD Format Licensing Corporation (http://www.dvdfllc.co.jp/license/l_howto.html)
The company that licenses the DVD logo doesn't allow it's use on any DVD's that are burnt. Personally, I think that's too restrictive because the logo is used to identify not just a format but a form of media as well.
I researched this for my own use. Since I'll be burning the DVDs I came up with a generic logo. From what I understand this is allowed. Only the logo itself is trademarked and copyrighted, not the words "DVD Disc" or "DVD Video".
Anyway, these are the logos I created for use on the ones I'm doing. You're welcome to download a zip file with these logos in various formats from my site and use as needed.

Wow thanks a lot buddy.. The DVD will be mass produced, but the company isn't large... and I'd prefer them not having to pay a free to use the logo, so these will come in handy.
Thanks again.

Yeah, I worked for a post house once that insisted on using the official logos. I told them that they would need to get a license to use them. They never got a license. Thankfully, I no longer work for those lying, cheating, worthless bastards.
But yes, I agree with MisterClips, in that you should be able to use his logos with no problem. It is just the logo that is registered.
Thanks again MisterClips for the free art. You are a kind and generous man.

i love it when designers share :) makes me all warm and fuzzy inside :D
and i still can't get over how many companies seem to be so blinkered and try and get away without paying for such minor things where there are so many other legal options available.

I might use your DVD logo's sometime MisterClips. I created a little DVD Slideshow for a birthday party and while creating the cover wanted to use teh DVD logo and found out I couldn't because it was not playable on every player in the Region and no permit and other stuff, instead I mimicked the logo with some subtle differences but enough that you'd still get teh idea across. Your's are nice and wont get someone in trouble too.
Thanks

Just one additional note. If the DVD is being mass produced the company handling the actual duplication may have a license that can be extended to you. Check their site or contact them directly. Some of these companies even provide you with an EPS of the DVD and Compact Disc logo for use in art at their website. It all depends on how big they are and what their policy is.
