Hey all,

This is the first time I will be purchasing a computer specifically for Graphic Design. I built my home PC for gaming and the one I have at work currently is only a few MB of ram better than my old Tandy 386. I finally talked my bosses into getting me a new computer and I want to make sure this one is good enough. Normally I would buy my own parts and slap them together, but my employers insist on going with Dell(gag).

I only do about 20 hours of PS, Illy, GoLive, and InDesign per week so I realize that I don't need anything top of the line. I am basically in charge of creating everything multimedia for a small company with around 1000 customers. This means creating/updating our website, making instructional flash CD's, designing brochures and other sales tools, etc. I just basically want to make sure that this is a decent computer for those purposes before they go out and spend all the cash.

Dell Dimension 9200:
Pentium D 820 Dual Core (2.80 800FSB)
WinXP Pro
2g Dual Channel DDR2 (667mhz)
256 Nvidia Geforce 7300LE
160GB Serial ATA 3gb/s (7200) HD

I know this computer will do better than what I am currently working on and it should do at least as well as my home PC which I have no complaints with in the last 2 years. What do you all think? Good enough?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would go with a Core 2 Duo instead of the old Pentium D. The power to performance ratio is excellent with the new Core 2 Duo. They also use less power and generate less heat.

I would go with a 512 RAM Nvidia Quadro over the Geforce. The Quadro rocks so hard its not even funny. Also supports dual monitors, which you should definately get.
