Ok i've added 3mm to the sides of the image for printing. But just found out the printer needs to see where the 3mm line is so he can cut !!

Don't know about this..

Anybody help me here ??

What program are you printing from? What file format are you giving the printer? pdf??

Talk to your printer and see if he wants just the "bleed marks" or if he also would like the "crop marks" too.
He may even ask for "color bars" and "registration marks" depending on his setup.

Ps is the program. pdf I think they'll print from. (but they are also asking for EPS files).

Think they're looking for the crop marks and bleed marks or either of them. Trouble is their english is no good so I can't speak to them.

Never done crop or bleed marks before. I'll see what I can find out...

I think you should be able to find all that you need in your print settings. Should be pretty simple. But Im not sure why your printer cant add those himself.... oh you said he wants a pdf. Wonder why he wouldnt want a psd?? Weird. Anyway, print settings.

Ya, you can specify up to a whole 1/8" of bleed in Photoshop in the print dialog box (Print with preview).

Your printer should know this.
Otherwise you will have to oversize your canvas and drop them in yourself.

Here's an example of what you need. It is an 8.5 in x 11 in document with 3mm bleed on an 11 in x 17 in canvas. (Ignore the black box in the center, that is my "art".)

Edit: This only includes bleed and crop marks. No color bars or registration marks.

Not sure why you can't send a high res pdf and let printer do the rest.

But yes, PrintDriver is correct (Print with Preview > Output)

I don't know about the 4-color printer guys, but if you send me an 8.5"x11" image layed up on an 11" x 17" board, I will charge you for the whole board. Or charge you a setup fee to get rid of it. If done this way, your board should only be as big as your outer crops. At least where I work...

When submitting a file to us it has to be uploaded to our website. This checks the files outer dimensions which include 1/16" bleed area around all sides. No crop marks, no color bars or additional board needed.

Yes, we would charge to remove extra board if we accepted the file offline.

We are 4 Color Offset Printers

I didn't mean to imply that an oversized artboard should be used. I thought that it would make a good template to be used in PS should the marks need to be in the art file. Not knowing the overall dimensions would make it hard to place.

I agree 100%, never make your artboard any larger than needed.

Ok this is gonna sound really stupid. But how do I know that the bleed marks that I added work ??!!

When I exported the file to pdf Iwas expecting to see the bleed marks like Technical Terrys' example in a previous post !! Nope.

How did you create your bleed marks?

Post what you have and we can tell you if it looks right or how to fix.
