I'm making an image that requires multiple 'thin' gradients. I click the gradient tool but I get one huge gradient. What do I have to do to get multiple thin ones?

Help please! http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/ibf-iamstupid.gif

Break up your object into smaller pieces.
I assume you are using Illustrator?
Use your pen tool to make the cut marks in your object then select your object and your pen lines and go to Pathfinder>separate (or the equivalent, it's call different things in different versions). Some weird crap may happen like shapes doubling up over each other so if at first it doesn't work, try ungrouping, selecting, deleting.
Hope that is what your question is...

I'm using photoshop 7.0

I'm trying to make this http://cgi.akulesworld.com/showthread.php?threadid=306 (This isn't any spam attempt...I'm trying to do this picture for my daughter.)

Any ideas on how do do that?

The fire tute?
It's a tutorial and gives you step-by-step.
I'm not familiar enough with Photoshop to help you out.
Someone else will be along, I'm sure.

Firstly, make sure you change the Gradient type to reflected. Then with your mouse just click n drag making very small movements with the mouse, everything should work fine, just as the tut says... If you're still having trouble try switching your foreground and background colours, maybe they're the wrong way round!?!

That's all i can think of at the moment to be honest, let us know how you get on with it. ;)

Use a reflected gradient, like beanz said, then adjust your Gradient settings so that the white end is at 0% opacity. (See attached screenshot.) That should prevent your new gradients from covering up your old gradients.
