Quiet City

Hi everyone.

My name is Len Marshall. I'm a GD located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My company is called Quiet City Design. It's fairly new, though I've been operating as a freelancer for about 5 years. I'm working at a promotional solutions company in the area, but working towards leaving that to take on more freelance work under the new company and new concept.

One thing that I'm really striving for with my freelance work is to create work that reflects a deeper meaning, and contributes to society as a whole. I've created a philosophy about "the quiet city" that it's made up of people, individuals, organizations, agencies, and groups that work towards a goal larger and more important than their own. It's about giving without recognition. I hope that my work will speak to people in different ways, either from an esthetic perspective, or from a conceptual one. I want to feel proud of every job I do, and about the people and their needs that I work for.

As I develop the company (which I haven't had much time to do because I've been busy with client work!) I'll be adding commentary etc. I'm looking to develop partnerships with clients, designers, printers, and suppliers who share in this benevolent outlook. Contact me if you're a person who already lives in, or wants to move into "the quiet city."

Cheers!
Len Marshall

Howzigowan, eh?

I moved out of the noisy city (T.0.) about 20 years ago to my 'Quiet Town' (Grimsby) but I have to say that I'm still a little fuzzy on the term 'benevolent outlook' that you describe. I mean, giving without recognition--like it or not, that seems to go with the territory of graphic designing.

Anyhooo.... glad to have another hibernuck here, and so-- welcome to the monkeyhouse.

Hey Mac, is it true you've been chosen to be Santa in the annual Noneofyourdamnbusiness Santa parade?

>>Your work is very nice<<

Owch! Give the guy a break, he just got here!

("Yeah, he was very nice.... in a quiet, city, sorta way.")

Sorry, cj2a, I know you probably meant well-- but what designer truly wants to be known for doing 'nice' work?

Yeah, if you want to see it'll be running down Whatsittoya Way around noon on Sunday.
