So after reading this very detailed review (http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tools/wacom-intuos-jenn.html) , I went ahead and used a gift card on a 4 x 6 Wacom Intuos tablet to replace my Graphire, which I was never thrilled with.
I'm warning you now, you're all going to be subjected to my lousy renderings. :)

Good choice, the Intuos is put together far better than the Graphire and even though I don't use it as much anymore, I wouldn't part with it.

Awesome. Did you have to pay a difference?

Did we see any renderings from the Graphire?

I'm sure there were a few here and there over the almost 2 years I've been on this forum (wow, has it been that long?!).
Yeah, I wound up paying just $112 after sales tax for the 4 x 6 widescreen format Intuos 3. I started playing with it tonight and it is greatness. It'll take time to get used to using a tablet again. I stopped using the Graphire2 I had because the pen always slipped out of my hand, etc.
I should be able to recoup some of that cost by selling my old one online, I'm sure. :)
Patrick, did you use your Intuos to create your web comics? I really liked the ones you showed us a while ago.
Do you find it difficult to sketch on a tablet? I got so used to using almost my whole arm to sketch on paper, and having just a 4 x 6 surface, I feel like I'm using my wrist too much to get any real nice gesture drawings.

I recall creating a Holiday Card with my Graphire2 last year that featured Frosty the Snowman melting in front of a Menorah at his first Chanukkah. I did a sub-par first try and never really went back to it. Ironically, I saw a card with the EXACT SAME concept in Target this week. I'm hoping this was already out in the collective consciousness and I wasn't ripped off by posting it here and on a couple other boards. :)
I should probably start contributing to IllustrationFriday.com and other boards to start using my new tool/toy and get my skills warmed up. Haven't been illustrating for a while.

Yes, the comics from the last half of it's tenure was all inked on tablet.
The 4 x 6's are a little hard to sketch on, the 6 x 8s (and even bigger) are much better for that kind of work. But, those are considerably more expensive.
The only tricky part of using it is the whole detachment of the hand from the drawing area. These days I used my tablet PC for sketching, though for inking I find it inferior due to the lesser pressure levels (which is where the Intuos comes in).

How do you use it for inking? Do you ink it in Photoshop with brushes or trace your line work in Illustrator as vectors?
My drawing skills are so piss poor. I find myself spending too much time trying to figure out the 'right' line, I draw WAY to many. My drawings are always a mess that way. I also need to learn how to vary my line strengths.

As the post above me said, Illustrator grasshopper. This article (http://www.wacom.com/tips/tip.cfm?ID=61&category=Other) will show you the way towards enlightenment.

Cool, thanks Patrick. I knew using Photoshop with a brush was too hard to ink with,
