you're going to probably get the new cliche line (now you won't cause im writing this - you can thank me later!) :
"I normally don't like grunge but I like this!"
I think the cover and 1st ad are great, the 2nd might need some attention, although I'm not quite sure where I would start.
One thing - the marionette strings are nearly impossible to see in the cover, much more clear in the 1st ad.
You should probably tighten up the kerning a lot - it will definitely help add to a distressed feel.

I like the bolder look of the first ad. Seems more readable than the cover.. Perhaps a little TOO grunge?
And the angle of the 2nd ad seems a little too harsh. Perhaps it would be easier to read at a lesser angle.
All in all, LOVE these. Really nice.

I like ad2 because of the type! I also agree that the angle may be to harsh! Straighten it a bit and it will rule! I love the work though!

I think that Ad 1 would work well as the book cover itself. Also on the book cover it would need author and subtitle info.

I like the concept. Just a few suggestions. Lighten the background a bit on the first one. It's a little hard to read with the red on dark brown. You don't need to necessarily make it pop, but maybe make it less flat.
On the ads I think the shadows from the wrinkles are too harsh (too much contrast there). If you can, lighten the shadows. In Photoshop theres an Adjustment tool called "Shadow/Highlight" that could help with this.
