It's Friday afternoon at work and I went to the fridge to get a beer...but there's only light beer (around here it tastes gross, it's low alcohol not low calories) or another beer that I dislike. I'll have to go without until I get home. So I'm a beer snob.
Are you are beer snob or can beggers not be choosers? I'm not going to complain to people at work of course, but I'll just silent protest at the cheap beer they've bought this week by not drinking it!

I'm a total beer snob. The light stuff is just yucky. Haven't yet really tasted a low-alcohol beer that tastes good. I'm a Sierra Nevada fan. :)

One time I was in a hurry at the liquor store and I just grabbed the brand I knew I liked without reading it properly. It was a low alcohol one. It was yucky I gave it all away in the end.
I hate it when products are disguised to look like other products. Like how you can accidently buy a revolting flavour of coke. I just want the normal one thanks...unless you're paying attention, they often look the same.

<- total beer snob. Ugh, I can't drink beer that isn't good.
On the other hand, I can drink bad wine. Or at least, CHEAP wine. Maybe because the alcohol content is so much higher.

Yeah, I'm not a wine connoisseur at all, I don't drink very much of it anyway.

I love me some wine. Actually, the more the merrier! :D
I was blessed witha wine store in my area that offered a free "wine tasting" every friday. They would sample a red and a white wine each week, and they gave you $1 off the featured wines, or $2 of a large bottle.
It was a great way to try different wines.
They also kept little sheets for each customer listing the wines they liked, the wines they DIDN'T like, and any notes we had on them.
Now THAT's marketing!
(Hot damn, do I love wine. LOL.) :D

when i was in high school, I drank whatever I could get, now, I cant even choke down a Miller Genuine Draft (my old favorite beer)
I love Leinenkugels, (big here in Wisconsin, very yummy) but Im a dark beer girl for the most part. Guiness, East Side Dark (local microbrew, Lakefront Brewery), louie's demise (local microbrew, Milwaukee Ale House) but my fav's gotta be Smithwicks (Irish Ale brewed by Guiness)
As for all you Sierra Nevada fans, Ive always hated pale ales, but I find myself picking up a case of SN on a regular occasion. Its quite tasty if I want something lighter.
It kind of sucks, paying $8 for a 6-pack last night instead of my old $12 for a case of Point (with returnable bottles!!!) Oh well.

I love Smithwicks, too. Guinness is okay, but I don't love it. Rickards Red and Rickards Honey Brown are pretty good, too.
I usually prefer the small independent breweries - very tasty stuff.

I used to drink coors light before I experienced "real" beer.
Coors light = 3 drops of Coors in a bucket of water.
Then the new Aspen Edge came out...
Aspen Edge = 3 drops of Coors LIGHT in a bucket of water.
Nasty, weak stuff, that.
I'll take a Smithwicks any day!
Unibroue is also very good.

I've got a hilarious little story to tell you guys:
Back in highschool my buddies and I were driving down to a reggae show in SF and we had 2 cars loaded with teens and cheap alcohol (coors light to be exact)
So we pull up to stop light and there is a bum sitting on the island asking for money from cars stopped at the light, and we asked him if he wanted a beer, and he said yeah. So we pull out a coors light and hand it to him from our window, but he looked at it and refused "no I dont drink that brand"
dude, you aren't hurtin that bad if you are a bum that only drinks micro brew.

I'll drink whatever is around .... not that I drink that much - but I have never been fussy... if I feel like drinking I am easy to please.
I don't do wine at all except for white zin... seems to be the only one I can tolerate without wincing ... every wine I have ever tried just tastes like crappola to me. So, no I guess I don't have a sensitive palette :D
I have an aunt who is quite the wine connoisseur. She always is swishing her wine in the glass and sniffing it and giving us the low down on the subtle attributes of the wine .. hint of this.... touch of that... I just nod my head and whisper .. yep, and it all tastes like crap. :D

Big time, long time beer snob here.
I have a ton of favorites, and enjoy almost all the styles, especially all the varieties that come out of Belgium & the UK.
Cask conditioned English ales - bitters and pale ales especially - are a thing to behold. A shame we don't have more acccess to beer like that here in the US.
I am lucky enough to live in a part of NYC with a large population of Irish nationals (and plenty of authentic Irish pubs), so not only do I get Dublin brewed Guinness, but also get it poured correctly. Makes a difference.
I'm surprised by the positive reviews of Smithwick's. Didn't care for it in Ireland when I first saw it 10+ years ago, and still don't care for it. Little bit sour for my tastes.
I live about 2 miles from the Brooklyn Brewery and hit their Friday night Happy hour on occasion (nothing fancy there, just a warehouse, some tables and their assortment of good beer. I like their lager a lot, but their seasonals are usually fantastic. They make, by my estimation the best bavarian style Hefe-Weizen in the US.
My wife, friends and I have gone to dozen's of Brewfests over the years, and I've tried just about anything.
Long time fave's:
Guinness (Draught -in a good pub)
Guinness Extra Stout
Pilsner Urquel (when fresh)
Brooklyn Chocolate Stout (a great Imperial stout)
Chimay Red
Chimay Blue
Duvvel
Orval
McNeil's Dead Horse IPA
McNeil's Duck's Breath Bitter
Anchor Liberty Ale
Celebrator (doppel bock)
Old Foghorn (barley Wine)
Young's Ram Rod
Young's Old Nick (barley wine)
Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter
Young's Oatmeal Stout
Bateman's ESB
Schneider's hefe-Weizen

Smithwickes is my favorite... a little trivia on that brand, did you know it's pronounced Smithicks? I guess that's how the family that originally brewed it has always pronounced their name.
I never drink the cheap stuff... the lowest grade beer I'll go is Corona and Lienenkugel Honeyveiss.

Boddington's was my most recent purchase. Upon sipping the first one, I remembered why I don't buy it more often.
It might fare a bit better on the tap than it does in those nitro-cans.

Magic Hat #9 is a bit on the sweet side, I believe it has Apricot in it.
Not my favorite beer, but it can be pretty refreshing on a hot day.
Other items from Magic Hat are pretty good.
"Fat Angel" is nice if you like bitter, hoppy IPA style beer.

Or a Lindemann's Peche Lambic, a good fresh Czech Pilsner, or a Bavarian Hef-Weizen (with lemon slice).
Guinness (Draught) is a unusual in that it is both a "warming" beer in winter and pretty refreshing on a hot day.

Let's face it, good beer is good anytime regardless of location or weather.
I cant even choke down a Miller Genuine Draft (my old favorite beer)
I love all of the microbrews in the city too but not being able to drink MGD? Blasphemy! I think you have been spending too much time on the East Side ;)
How do you partake in the cities great heritage of dumpy dive bars? You just can't beat a full night of pool/darts and $5 a pitcher. I think you need to spend a Saturday bar hopping in West Allis drinking High Life. By the third or fourth pitcher you will not even care what you are drinking. :D

Thats pretty close to my regular list. Sierra Nevada Summerfest is a pretty good summer lager, I dunno if its easy to get outside of Northern California though, its definately worth picking up if you can find it.
Also, the taproom and restaurant have a lot of special on tap versions of the bottled beer. Draught style Pale ale is awesome.

Im guilty of that. I cant tell you how many times I woke up with a splitting headace only to roll over and see an empty case of BEAST in my bed next to me not knowing how it ended up there. I guess everyone's standards go down when theyve had a couple.

Bwahahahaha - Oh boy have I been there before :D As cheap as the BEAST is I would not classify it as the worst beer I have ever had. (Blue Moon is high on that list) More often than not I drink Kiilian's - but thats only because 2 bars within walking distance have it on tap in giant frosty mugs.

You are rating Killian's higher than Blue Moon?
Blue Moon isn't the best Wit style out there, but it's far from bad. I'd grab one over a Killian's . (Both are Coors attempts at micros)
Worst beers I have had:
Lion ($.99 a six pack in 1991)
Matt's
Schmitt's Lite
Tubourg
Colt 45 (or just about any Malt Liquor)
And though it has a certain "ironic cool" factor, Pabst Blue Ribbon is a pretty sorry excuse for a beer.

I'm a beer snob and like Captain Spanky, I'm also a vodka snob.
Beer: Guiness Extra Stout, Killians Irish Red and there is a bar in Atlanta that has a house brew called Georgia Brown... it's real good.
Vodka: Grey Goose & Belvedere. I'll drink Absolute every now and then.
Absolutely I would choose Killian's over Blue Moon. Blue Moon has an obnoxious sweetness to it. Any beer that you can not tolerate more than one of in a sitting does not rank high on my list. Hell I would rather drink Pabst than Blue Moon (and do on thursdays after basketball - 90¢ tappers)
