Painter always makes me feel like my computer is junk

Every time I use Painter, I feel like my computer is way under par. If I try using a 60 pixel brush with my new Wacom tablet, it lags worse than a cross-country flight.

My PC is 2.25 Ghz Pentium IV with 512 MB RAM and a 256 MB Video Card. I guess this thing is just too old these days, but my last computer felt the same way 5 years ago. I'm wondering if it's just the program, or if I bought a $1,500 PC, it would make a difference?

It's the ram - mostly. The video card depends on what model you have, some are built better than others.

The P4s are single layer processor which even though it it ok. the Dual layer or my favorite the AMD 64bit chipset will be faster. The investment however may not be worth the upgrade from your P4.

I suggest investing in some RAM. With that machine you should have at least 1Gig or if at all possible bump up to 2gig and I think you will be satisfied with the results.

And yes Painter is a resource hog. :)
