Hi, I'm designing a website for an 80s based theme party, and am looking for a good resource for 80s design reference. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

if you google "80's fads" you'll get a lot of info.

go buy yourself a copy of MacPaint or Pixel Paint , then try to design something in... "instant 80's Retro"

I think he may have places other than just NJ in mind.:D

I had the same problem awhile back: http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17227

Basically what I did was went to google images and searched for movies from the 80s, albums, television shows (miami vice, etc.) That gave me a pretty good idea about colors -- think neon, pink and gray, black and white checkerboard (vans), etc. The 80s were very, very BRIGHT. And very gaudy.

So there's not really a whole heck of a lot out there in terms of design resources, I don't think designers are ready to "go there" just yet. It's a whole lot of tacky.

But once you put yourself in the tacky mindset, it's a whole lot of fun. Good luck!!

First off, sorry for the double-post, as you can see I'm a damn nuB, argh. Other than that, thanks for the info and links so far. EC> Your post and the links are very helpful. GD> That Michael Motorcycle dude is definitely radical, cool trippy shit, thanks for the tip!

I remember the 80's. Now, if'n ya ask me about the 70's, that may be a different story, but then, I'm not sure, because... we're talking about the 70's, right?

Nah, never touched the white stuff... not in the 80's... Now, if'n ya ask me about the 70's, that may be a different story, but then, I'm not sure, because... we're talking about the 70's, right?

Have a look at www.truffleshuffle.co.uk (http://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk)

They sell all sorts of 80's stuff. Might spark some inspiration.
