i think the world would be a better place if you were able to just smack people in the face without having to explain yourself afterward.

They've been threatening to make us work this weekend. I think I'll be okay but more than likely prepress and printers will have to come in on Saturday. Urrghh! They do this every year! I was working two departments last year (prepress and in-house)... I got screwed.

I'd go get some socks and fill them with some coal, place them on everyones desk that takes the day off.

Rick, I feel your pain, I really do, but it's not the agencies who are at fault all the time for the late deadlines, it's the agencies' clients, who decide that they want stuff in time for a certain time. For example, our golf clients are all pushing hard to get stuff done in time for the PGA show coming up, in late January, which means we're working as fast as we can to get stuff approved and to the printers and printed in time to distribute at the show. It's a food chain thing, unfortunately, and the printers suffer because they're the last ones to be fed. Agencies don't drive the deadlines, stuff like tradeshows and publication deadlines does.
I know our agency does its best to manage the clients timeline expectations, but we don't always succeed. In fact, we rarely do. :(

Well, hopefully it won't hit you too hard. I've been going pedal to the metal all week trying to get things to the printers on time before the holiday. :o
Believe me, I've worked my fair amount of unreasonable overtime at this time of the year back in the day when I used to work pre-press in a typeshop/print vendor, so I can truly relate.
