Flora Zimbelman says it all started 54 years ago when she put an uncooked hot dog in her sister’s suitcase.
"I don’t know what made me do it. The devil I guess," she said.
Flora’s sister, Rose, found the hot dog when she opened the suitcase back up in Idaho, where she lived at the time.
"She mailed it back to me telling me to keep my garbage at home," said Flora.
The game was on.

aw, that's a sad ending though.
I mailed one of my friends a slice of American cheese when he was at college. I didn't stop to think that the machines at the post office would smash it into oblivion... and it happened to be summer at the time, too. When he received it, he could read the letter I wrote through the wet, greasy envelope.
He still hung it on the wall in his dorm room.
Man, could you imagine trying something like that these days, after the anthrax scare and everything? It's a different world we live in now.

That's a crazy story. I'm amazed they were able to keep doing it up until now.

wow, that hot dog must be absolutely disgusting by now, but somehow, its touching...the ending was kinda sad, but that's the kind of thing that we think back on after our family is gone and are able to laugh about...great story! My mom and my oldest brother have a running joke about pink flamingos...one xmas, my mom and dad flew up to their house and in the middle of the night, installed 50 plastic pink flamingos in their yard while they slept. My bro and his wife woke up in the morning, looked out their window and were like WTF? Ever since, my bro and mom keep sending each other the tackiest pink flamingos they can find every xmas.
Morea, why the american cheese? was he cheesy?

lol Brie... it was already sliced thin and individually wrapped, and we "believed" that sharing cheese was a sign of respect for the person we shared with... because cheese is tasty, so you'd have to really like someone in order to give them some of yours.

it might just be a sign of mental illness... but I'd rather believe it's cute, so let's go with yours. ;)
