Hey Guys,

well this may sound like a very odd topic, but i am looking for someone who runs a web design business or works for one. Since we can't ask pricing question, i was hoping i could get in touch with someone (via email), who would be willing to give me advice and mentor me on running a webdesign business and growing it.

thanks

Vanquish

You're gonna have to make a lot of mistakes yourself and learn from them. In all honesty, running a web dev business isn't much different than any other business. The basic principals are the same. As for someone mentoring you...think about it - why would someone teach you how to start and run a business that will compete with them? Would you?

You're in NSW right?

Good luck.

I completely understand the want for a mentor.

Starting a business is HARD. Half the time you feel like you are feeling your way around in the dark. There are the legalities to understand, taxes, licenses, due dates, do you incorporate or decide to be an LLC? Then your own policies to draw up. Do you let people do this or that? How much do you charge per hour? Yadda yadda yadda. It's not easy.

There are a lot of people on this forum who are willing to help if you have a specific question. Mentoring isn't that hard, it's just time consuming. I don;t worry about helping my competition so long as they are not in my local area, yunno? Besides... people who like my work, like my work. :)

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice greyghost. I'm in Australia. One of my big concerns is pricing, one thingidon't want to do is under charge a client, or overcharge them.

Try calling some local-ish businesses. I'm sure if you explain that you're wanting to make sure your prices are on a level of some kind with theirs, and to just give you a ballpark range they would be willing to offer some advice.
