Hey, so i am trying to desgin a poster its going to be about 5ft by 3 ft or so and i wasnt sure if i design at that or just do one at like 8.5x11 but do a really high resolution ... i'm new to print stuff thanks

Ask the printer who's producing the poster for you what dimensions it should be built at. In many cases, things of this size are built at 1/4 the final output size. You'll need to find out what the final output resolution requirements are.
