Welcome! I like your work here. Lots of good use of color and contrast, although a few if the images seemed a little too washed out to me. The first shot of your girlfriend in particular seems to have lost a lot of detail. I like the colors in the one with the girl with the flower behind her head. You seem to be off to a great start. Keep up the good work and good luck getting into school.

just say no to placing your focal point in the center.

I think photo of my girlfriend is a kind of burned... (if that is the word for that)... cause too much light entered so left side of the face lost detail....

tZ does place a center focal point, however, he offsets that by creating a horizontal interest by way of repetition and implied direction. Once you get done with the little monk men, you're directed to the columns of the wooden structure. This directs the eye throughout the image.

To be more precise, the attention-getter in the image settles onto the grenade. It was hard to see that in the way the picture was taken, though.

Just FYI, if you post work for critique, expect a critique... please don't go pulling other people's work into it. This is about the piece that you posted and requested feedback on... not about anybody else's work.

If you disagree with someone's opinion, that's fine, but try to appreciate the fact that they took time out of their day to look at your work and comment on it. That's how we get better at this.

I'd recommend reading the stickies at the top of the showcase forum to get a feel for how things work around here, I'd especially recommend the Showcase FAQ (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12915) - and not just because I wrote it. ;)

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.

If you love graphic design so much then show us some, most of this is photography. The only bit of graphic design here is the exteme crew and the porno thing...

The extreme crew isnt that original as a concept or logo, it kinda bugs me when people just think putting a picture of a skater and the word extreme makes some thing "cool" or "street". What is it for? a web banner? a 48 sheet? The bevel needs work.

The porno thing.......... Its a bit daft really and i personally would feel abit awkward showing professional designers who do this for a living a joke porno web banner thing of my mate. The typography needs work.

Your photography isnt bad, but its not great either and the one of the cactus that you said we are going to love is actually your worst shot IMO. The composition isn't particularly dynamic and converting an image to mono then picking the focal point out in colour is a little bit done.

Those are my honest opinions, sorry if i offended you but you did ask

You guys keep in mind he's 17. I say not bad stuff for being 17, but far from professional.

ThunderSteel: Try googling 'The Golden Mean', or 'The Rule of Thirds' for some more creative ways of compositing a photograph.

im not asking for "big stuff", all i am saying is this is mainly photography not graphic design. You may have got a better crit in the photography section. If you have any design then post it... it doesnt have to be for famous brands.

Make projects up! thats what i did when i was your age, design new versions of well known companies logos, invent new companies and do them an identity. Do your own ad/brochure/point of sale for a company. It doesnt have to be a real brief so long as it gets you thinking. Things like that are a far better use of your time than making joke porno sites of you mate.

no im not trying to say there is no design in pornography, personally i wouldnt have posted this, i have done lots of photoshop manipulations of friends for a laugh but i wouldnt post them on a forum for crit, or put them in my portfolio. Pornography asside the typography does need some tidying up.
