"Second Life"...What's that Urst?

I tried to check it out a few months back, but it just wouldn't work on my machine. Mind you, I was trying this at work--actually exploring the marketing potential of this venue, as some schools have actually started to do this.
Basically, I was trying to determine what sort of potential prospects lurk in there. After reading and hearing so much about this virtual world, I wanted to see if it went past what I had as a 'gut feeling' about it being more of a a "Second Life - for losers' kind of thing.
Urstwhile, I'd be very interested in hearing what you (or others) have found there.

I had never heard of it, but just checked it out...it looks like it could be fun. (from the creative aspect) But I wondered the same as Broacher...Do you have a membership on it? I'm curious. Tell more!
I'm already onto my fourth life, Urstwile...
You guys are slow.

Sama, Second Life is basically a virtual world. You download the software (it's free, although there are paid memberships as well), and create your character, or avatar and explore the virtual world of Second Life.
Broacher, apparently people are making money on it as well. I just joined a few days ago, and haven't fully figured everything out, but there is an actual economy and people sell things, buy land (virtual land, of course). One of the people I "met" on there said she makes about $500 actual dollars a week.
Reuber, yes, there's a fair amount of virtual sexual hijinks on there as well, apparently  , which I suppose is to be expected when you can be anything you want, look any way you want, and pretty much do anything you want (with certain limitations, there are some boundaries).
I've been having fun experimenting with it. Aspects of it remind me of the whole Burning Man phenomenon, not sure if you guys are familiar with that. Most of the people are helpful to newbies, I haven't had any bad experiences thus far, and it's fun to see what people create in this "world".
Anyway, I don't know if I'll get fully addicted to it, but it is fun to try as something new.
I'd only recommend trying it if you have a fairly fast computer, I can't imagine trying it on my computer at work. It's very graphics intensive, a lot of 3-D modeling in play. For those who are into gaming stuff and have computers that can handle it, it's probably fine, but you are connecting via the client software to the Internet, so a broadband connection is a must.

I guess it's kind of like the Sims, Silence, I've never played that, but it's multi-player, is the Sims like that?

Do it now before the REAL government sinks their claws into your virtual assets. I just heard about this recently,

Apparently the IRS is trying to figure out how to tax transfers of virtual assets or acquisition of virtual loot from monsters.
