Hello all,

I'm new so hello to everybody. I'm a graphic designer that was recently employed by a small internet start-up to design their web interface and shape their branding.

We are currently running a logo poll on our final 4 shapes, and I would very much appreciate it if you could vote on my logos and fill out your thoughts.
The logos are flattened and one-color (black) for parity.

The start-up is web-community oriented

The poll is here -> http://www.octabox.com/octapoll.php

I hope you will take the time to vote, and I will be following your responses here too.

Thanks

1) what is the website about?

2) what does any of these symbols have to do with the website?

3) what is the target audience of the startup?

4) for me they are pretty generic unless some meaning is applied to them.

... I didn't vote

Internet start-up is a rather generic term to describe a business for the purposes of logo design. And that's what you have here - rather generic symbols which make no sense to me, except maybe "C" if there are divisions within the start-up - but that's an overdone concept anyhow.

D may have some potential conceptually, but all of these need to be pushed further before anyone can comment on them constructively.

you are right, we made a mistake when calling them "logos", they arent logo in any form.

Logo are finished shapes with meaning, a background story and much more.
What we wanted to check is how these shapes affect people when seeing them aside terms like "octabox", "community" and so on..

Yes, this is generic, but in some way we are learning from the process and we would like it to have some input in our logo design later on..

You have to take a good look at the company you're branding, what they're about, what product/service they offer, what their objectives are, who is their target audience, analyse their competition... all this means you come up with a clear and concise creative strategy to build an effective brand.

Throwing some shapes together and getting people to vote on them isnt branding.
