Hi everyone, I'm not too sure if it is okay for me to join this forum. I am not a pro graphic designer but I do enjoy using Adobe Photoshop and thought I might get some hints and tips for creating effects etc. as well as get to meet some new friends too. :)
There are plenty of forums out there but after lurking for a while (well a looong while) this one seemed to have a good mix of friendly people so I took the risk and signed up.
I hope you guys don't mind me tagging along for the ride, I am no expert but I am keen to learn. You lot seem so talented I must be able to learn something but I will never be an expert. :o
About me? Well I live in the UK and work part time from home. I have been on the net for about two years and love it!!!!!!! I am fairly up to speed with computers but you may have to be a little patient with me using this forum (I never break rules intentionally)and using Photoshop (as I said, I am no expert). :eek:
I really hope I can one day be good enough to help others on this forum.

Welcome Sammi. It's kind of slow here on the weekends, but it picks up during the week. I'm glad you decided to make yourself known. :)
I know Buda, it's no longer weekend for you.

Can you tell I'm a wee bit bitter it is Monday?
I've been away for over 2 weeks though, so I should be a wee bit gratefull I guess. Still in holiday mode though - so hard to get up this morning!

Yup, I can relate, Buda, to the first day back after the long break thing. I had such a hard time getting up for work on Tuesday, after a whole week off.

Thanks guys!!! You are quick, it was nice to have some replies and so fast was great.
@budafist
I mainly design my own desktop wallpapers and mess around with photographs, frame them and use them as gifts for friends and family.
I also create fake magazine covers for friends and family and frame them as gifts too.
I have also repaired photographs too but that is fun to do but can take ages and can be very frustrating.
If it is Monday where you are I was wondering where you are?

I find repairing photographs very soothing. I do it sometimes to help me relax. If I look into it I guess the act of clone or healing out the scratches and marks makes me feel like my life is being healed too. Or am I turning into a rambling hippy?
I'm in New Zealand. I'm pretty sure we are ahead of the world time-wise.

I think it is very rewarding to compare a damaged picture to the fully repaired one, it can make you feel very good.
As for being a rambling hippie - nothing wrong with that. Hippies never harmed anyone (erm... ...you may want to overlook Charles Manson, he's the exception that proves the rule :) )
@Red Kittie Kat
Many thanks for the warm welcome.

Yup, Charles Manson...definitely not a hippie. He co-opted hippie culture for his own nefarious ends.

I wonder if I am a hippie. I hug trees. Ask urstwile.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to like it much, because they attack. But that's a story for another day.
Welcome aboard Sammii, I think that this is a great place to learn whether you are doing it as a pro or just because you love it. There are lots of very helpful people here. I hope you enjoy your stay. :)

Can't argue with the psycho title. :)

I used to hug trees, but then I became bitter because I wasn't hugged back. Nowdays I hug my bf and my Sharmi bunny.

Welcome! I have learned a lot here. The references some of these pros put out are amazing. If the words displayed in the threads don't help, look to the links they provide and you, just like me, will pick some things you never imagined you could do. In a way...I want to take this moment to thank all the pros and all those who have posted great information and designs for me to look to and read the comments.
This really is a great forum!!!!

Buda, That was sooooo hippy.... you hippy!!! :p
welcome to the forum Sammi, we'll totally help you. spreading the knowledge is what a forum is all about, unlike some forums. :rolleyes:
Here is a great book (http://www.amazon.com/50-Fast-Photoshop-CS-Techniques/dp/0764541749/sr=8-3/qid=1168324604/ref=sr_1_3/102-1310016-9149714?ie=UTF8&s=books) that is easy for a "non-expert" to follow.

Ok, rambling hippie I am. I don't mind, it makes me less guilty when I do non-hippie things.
