Anyone familiar with both editions?

The first edition is available at my school's library. The third edition is available at one of my local libraries. School is more convenient for me but if there are significant differences I'll get the third edition.

I am familiar. Had to read the first one for class and my design professor is the editor of the third edition. He said there are going to be many additions to the last chapter which focuses on contemporary design. There are also going to be additions throughout the book. I think it is worth getting the new one.

I skimmed the third edition which apparently has good information about postmodern and digital design but the body text is in sanserif type! Maybe you canask your professor about type selection.
