hi everybody

i got this assignment, an ad in 4 versions - danish, english, urdu and thai. i haven't even tried thai yet, but have the following problem with urdu:

when i copy the text from the original, and paste it into illustrator or indesign, the order of letters i reversed? in the original, something resembling a g is on the right hand side of the sentence. pasted into indesign, the same letter suddenly is on the left? the letters themselv are not mirrored, just their order.

since i obviously can't read urdu, and i'm supposed to print 5000 copies of the finished product, i'd like to be sure i got it right...

anyone got any experience with that? or can actually read urdu?

last but not least i do not know if this even is urdu, or some other language, but i was told it is ;-)

thanks in advance,

hansler

That's one hell of an assignment...

Have you tried translation sites?

Your posted text is certainly in reverse order...perhaps you can start by telling me what text you are actually trying to produce...are you still trying to do this?

I don't know urdu, but is it one of the languages where text is read from right to left, instead of left to right? I think I remember reading that for those types of languages, you actually have to have a version of InDesign that is native to that style of language, like an Arabic version, otherwise, it won't work. I could be remembering that wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading about it.

Edit: Doh! Didn't see that this was an old thread. :o

You have to hire a translator!

You couldn't possibly do this relying on advice from people on the web (who have no accountability) and/or a translation programme.

Oh crap, this is an old thread. I hope they did hire someone to do this...
