A date change here, a form made there, here-a-change, there-a-change, everwhere-a-change-change...oh' poor magnus had a job, and-it's-f**k-ing-gay!

Most of the clients, being small-town are computer and design illiterate. Leaving me to trouble shoot ALL the time. But to make it worse, my boss is in the same boat...leaving me to babysit him in all matters digital ALL the time.

Boss treats the employees as company assets, not employees...no leadership ability at all. He's concerned about his own pockets...period.

Upgrading to OS X was ok...Quark 6 has been iffy...the xerox ppd's don't seem to work so great with it, especially on older machines like our DC 490 black and white printer. So I get problems ALL the time.

Our image setter has issues with either Quark 6 or OS X, or both...30% of the jobs I send get screwed up for no reason.

I see problems like mine all over the board, for various reasons. Most of the time the reasons are so numerous and different that nothing can get done about them.

My solution?

Freelance on the side and become an apprentice electrician. I think i've had enough of geting paid not-so-great for doing something I've come to detest. I'd rather get paid double what I am now, to do something somewhat decent, and do freelance on the side that I enjoy.

What I'll have to do is find a company that will sponsor me. From there, it's mostly OJT, but there are 3 phases of schooling for about 10 weeks each or so, that you collect unemployment during. Then it's 9000 hours and you get your certification.

Yeah...that's the thing. I'm not waiting another 5 years or so to be making good money, nor is the job market in this area have much to offer. I need to be making better coin now...If I have to put a year or two into being an apprentice electrician, so be it, but it'll be worth it more in the end.

People, most of em in general, they all suck (except you gdfers) i did a favor for some guy cuz he was running a gateway computer from like 96' so with his permission (and me charging him only $20) I bought a new badass puter for him, but the new one wouldn't take his win 98 HD, so he had to transfer files, I spent roughly 3 hours upgrading his windows xp service packs and drivers, but yet he still hasnt said thank you, or here have 20 dollars or anything, because in his mind I pancakeed up, when all I was trying to do was help.....so to everyone out there in lala land, pancake you too, you ungrateful pancakeing bastids.

Shady people, they are increasing in scary #'s, and its starting to be a very bad thing, when people are getting shot (in the back) for there honda's.

Customer Service....what is that.......exactly. Seems in the last 10 years america has succombed to just giving up. Not me, I stand up for things when they are not right, and what happens because of that, my friends make fun of me, tell me im anal. Im not pancakeing anal you dipcraps, if everyone who ever had a problem with something or someone stood up to it, and confronted it head on, this world would not be so pancakeed up, pussies have ruined it. I get bad food at a drive thru, I drive back, demand my money back, and my meal comped. Some people say 'what if they spit in your food' like I give a pancake man, its about quality, you are just a kittykat and because of that they are going to step all over you, they wont care about getting orders right, cuz they can get away with it, hence bringing overall quality down cuz your too much of a kittykat to stand up for yourself.

Did I mention Women (the ones i work with, get involved with on a relationship level, hell my mom even) <-------annoy the crap out of me sometimes.

You know what pisses me off. My employers. THey keep pancakeing around with my raise. I was supposed to get it months ago. The general manager tells me it will be on this paycheck, but it's not there. He doesn't know why. Now I have to wait 2 more weeks. If it doesn't show up this time I'm raising hell times 10. And I want backpay. pancakeing cheepskates.

They want me to be the shift manager, but they pancake with my raise. They said 30 days after I started being manager I would get another raise, well, it's been at least 60 days and they still are screwing with that too. I hate 'em.

DF OMG I bitch to when ppl mess up my order and my friends think im insane also.. Anytime i get someone that screws crap up, or whatnot i complain. If the manager does not take care of my issue in a timly/polite mannar then i say fine. u lost a customer. and i WONT go back no matter how bad im in the mood for whatever.. lol..

oh yeah, i got a ban list too. the only difference between us is, if the manager doesnt do things in a polite and timly manner, I got to the district manager, I actually had a DM's cell phone # for a specific taco bell that would f up my order everytime I went there (I had a reciept list of 12 orders that they had messed up) eventually it came down to me calling the DM after every incident, they fired the entire staff (which is fine by me, looked like a bunch of gang members anyway) after that I never had another problem at that store......true story : )

I hope you dont quit design entirely because of one crap situation. :( you are in a bad example of a design workflow. I have been there man. Probably worse then you are in. I'm not the best person to say this but I think you should at least try another office. Don't give up!

I think Mag's problem with trying another place there for GD is he said there just isn't much offered in the industry where he lives. I've been in real sh!t jobs too..it sucks. I never thought of giving up GD tho. I dunno WTF I would do if I wasn't doing GD. I have days where I get really POed and frustrated, but not to the point where I wanna leave the field...just the office I was in maybe.

You gotta do what makes you happy Mag - if that IS leaving GD then so be it *sigh* but I think you should definately atlesat freelance on the side. Don't completely lose touch with GD! And stick around here...or else!! ;o)

Yeah, D-zine knows what the situation here is like. I'm living in a place where the design market isn't so hot, unless you want to make the move to a big city, which isn't for me. I hate cities....the closest one to me is Toronto, and you wouldn't catch me dead there for more than a day. And no way I'm commuting with all those other bums on the highway!

i feel your pain mag.. i am currently residing in nyc and i want to try and get a print shop gig in manhattan. i almost landed a pre press job with a top magizine printing company but i wasnt qualified enough :) hey i dont like the city life all too much myself and i have been pondering on getting my prepress and graphic skills up here in nyc. then in 2 years move to florida. anyone know how the graphic design and prepress jobs are out there? any type of medical benifts etc?
