Is there a way to highlight text in Quark? I know I can use the Rule Above to highlight a line, or a portion of it, but that's not quite going to cut it. I believe it can be done in ID by setting the properties for a 'strikethrough' but this project is already nearly done in Quark, it's a little late to start over. Any ideas?

I'm not sure I'm following you here. Could you explain what you want a little more?

My client wants certain words within a body text to have a pale box behind them, like someone highlighted it, so these particular words will stand out from everything else.
PS: In ID, you can change the settings of the underline style (not the strikethrough) for this effect.

You could just make a box, color is and and put it behind the desired text.
I know this isn't what you meant, but it will work.

Highlight the text you want highlighted then
Go here:

Then modify the settings to get the look you want here:

Hope that helps!

That's exactly what I was trying to avoid. This workbook is currently 75 pages (and will be expanding exponentially) and most pages have at least 3 highlights. Every time the client sends a substantial enough edit, everything moves and the boxes don't stay with the text they're supposed to highlight. That's why I was hoping for a better way.

I don't know of one VN... :( That's just one of the many reasons I like InDesign better.

Ex: That changes the color of the whole box. Is there something else I'm missing?

Actually click and drag on the word or words that you want highlighted (In a sense... highlight them). Then go to modify and change your color and blending options.

d'oh! Wait a sec...
(It's been awhile since I've pancaked with Quark)

That 'modify' thing changes the property of the box the text is in, not the text that's highlighted. I found a way to make a custom underline that would work the same as it does in ID, but the underline appears over the text instead of beneath it. Crapola. I have to do this the hard way now.

You could do it by making a separate text box. Then modify the color of the text and it's position. By doing this I came up with this result:
