I have an Illustrator file from a client that warns me of missing links when I try and open it in CS2, and it won't display the missing items. If I open it in CS, I get warnings that this file was generated by a newer version of Illustrator, but it imports fine and the "links" aren't missing and are embedded and display fine...Any ideas why this is happening?

Is it really an Illy file or a pdf in disguise?

Write down the name of the links the are missing and request them from your client.

Once you have the links click repair and find them in your system to relink.

The extension is .ai...

I just ended up using CS to open it...just wondering why it would do that.

Don't know, but I've seen ghost links before. I just ignored em. :)

the extension ending in .ai does not necessarily mean it's an Illustrator file (especially if it was created on a Mac). It very well could be a PDF.

I'm not sure why you're having image problems.
