I had these air conditioner repair men over one day. One brought his 17 year old son. While in the attic, the men dropped a pan of water. Well, it came leaking through the roof right on top of our organ. The 17 year old was standing right by it. I quickly grabbed one end of the organ and told him to grab the other end. He just stood there. I thought he was trying to be cool. So I yelled "Are you retarded or something? Grab the other end. Hurry. Hurry!!" I was so shamed when they told me he really is retarded. I yearned for a time machine. Haven't used the word since!

Me and the entire collective of Bears fans just took a massive dump of relief. Screw sports. My favourite hockey-team got degraded from the top-league last season, and I thaught, hey then we'll win loads of games now and get up from the second-league as soon as possible. The three first games were won, and when the third ended 10-3 I never would expected FOUR STRAIGHT LOSSES. God, life's unfair sometimes.

Rayburr, I don't follow sports, but I almost can't help but hear the reactions, as my husband Sam is a rabid football fan. I heard that dump of relief, at least from our neighbor. Sam had unfortunately wagered against them.

Everyone calling the missed field goal in the Bears/Cardinals game a "game winner" despite there being at least 50 seconds left, more than enough time to start a drive that only needed to get within field goal range for Robbie Gould, the league's top scorer and kicker who has been 18/18 for field goals this season, to score the real game winner.
Grossman woulda been picked.

That's really not a bad idea, though the alcohol may dry my skin... I may soon go to a super-dermatologist in NYC to do more extensive allergy testing to try and pinpoint exactly what it is I'm allergic to ('fragrance' is quite a broad category). Not sure how much that would help however, since companies are not required to list their exact fragrance ingredients (considered a trade secret - so instead of me being able to read an ingredient list and know whether I can use it, they can make more money because no one else can recreate the special scent of their products. Bastards.).

Yeah, virgo, you have my sympathy with that one! I found out I was allergic to random bath products at the age of 13 when I put a bath pearl in my bath and had an all over revolting itchy red reaction. It was awful and although I've been careful and never had an all over body reaction quite so bad again I do get nasty reactions to random products that have nothing similar in the ingredients. It's like playing russian roulette with cosmetics. I've found one fragrance that doesn't do awful things to me and I'm sticking with that one. No more experiementing for me, it's too uncomfortable when it goes wrong.

also, things that jerk my chain are when both kids get ill at the same time as me and my husband do, like now. So we were up all last night with two babies that couldn't sleep cos they felt so rotten. Now they are finally dozing in the livingroom under the same blanket, which is very cute, but damn I'm tired and now I have to struggle to stop them becoming nocturnal.
Oh and when I've typed a response to something on here and my two year old creeps up behind me and presses a short cut key on the graphics tablet that makes a nice clicky sound and somehow deletes everything. Ho hum.

Frankster, how old are your kids? We have the same problem with everybody getting sick at the same time. I find mine rest better if I don't give them fever medicine. I don't give it until they're at about 101. Except for my oldest daughter (13) who gets horrible spikes in her fever. She even hallucinated one time. The highest it's ever gone, while on ibuprofen and tylenol, is 106.7. I've never gotten to the ER so fast in all my life!

they are 24 months and 7 months. It's heart breaking too see them unhappy like this. They are both very active crazy kids, so when they just want to be hugged and watch tv and cry a bit it's quite upsetting. high fevers can be really scary, but both mine have pretty low grade ones right now. I think it's a mild flu type bug that we've all got. I can't take any flu meds to cope with it either cos i'm still breastfeeding my 7 month old. arg!

That sucks too, not even knowing what it is you're allergic to. I can use fragranced products sparingly - I won't get an immediate reaction. It's when I use something more regularly and lull myself into a false sense of "maybe that dermatologist was wrong and I'm NOT allergic to fragrances so let's try regular shampoo and soap since the fragrance-free stuff I've been using makes my hair and skin dry as a witch's broom" that I eventually start to break out. Oh, boy, itchiness heaven!

Ah, there's me doing it cos you americans seem to. I'd say one or one and a half or two, but it seems all the people I've met out here use months, sometimes even up to 36 months! It seems to be the norm for clothing sizes too until after 24 months 2T, 3T etc starts. have I just met freaky parents out here? Can I go back to my UK ways?
Nah - It's probably just me ... I just don't get it.
frankster
10-27-2006, 10:46 PM
actually, that's another thing that bugs me. The fact that all the baby clothing sizes in the first year go in 3 month increments. Your kid doesn't need all new clothes every 3 frickin months. Just have 0-6 month and 6-12 months. If you have a tiny newborn then I can see the advantage of preemie or newborn sizes, but kids don't start trying to crawl till they are 5 months or so and so it really doesn't matter if trousers are a bit long or tops are roomy. It's enough of a pain in the wallet when your kids are born opposite ends of the calendar so all the hand me down clothes in the right size are for the wrong climate. Yes, my kids are going to be the ones in the school yard at the beginning of the year with uniforms that they will "grow into"

Frankster--I agree with the clothes sizes for the rugrats. Do it the logical way. Let the doting grandparents/aunts/uncles/whatnot waste money on new "cute" little outfits. For the day-to-day stuff try a thrift store (or a clothing exchange)--the rats will outgrow stuff at that age before it's worn out. We used hand-me-downs from friends and stuff out of exchange stores and thrift stores until the girls started getting a sense for what they wanted.

When they finally did, I didnt have any time so I called the trade show people and got a (free!) one week extension on the graphics (8 panel graphics and 4 headers).
Well that extension ends tomorrow, the graphics are due tomorrow and the graphic I made are really nice. My boss (the pres.) just called and said he wanted to go another direction with the graphics. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
Cant even work late tonight, got class AND ive got a freelance project that the guy is on my ass about (I dont blame him) UGH!!! guess ill be in at 5am tomorrow. :(
I know how ya feel jacki. I have had 2 projects at work and a couple freelance projects that I have been trying to get out the door for the last week but they keep on coming back.
A menu that started with just 1 page of changes to it lead to a complete redesign and 9 pages of changes. I thought it was done yesterday and I had just collected everything and sent it out for films when I get a call telling me they are changing the hours ... back on my desk it sits.
I am also working on a postcard, where we are having color correction issues, artwork that does not line up on sugar sheets for a chocolate project, a rerun of a digital job I pancaked up last week, and of course a flood of orders at 4:59 when I am trying to get out early to catch the Bucks game last night or to play Basketball tonight (Rec League).

When buglers break into your house while you are away, are not satisfied with waht they found and come back when you are in...Lucky I was ready for them this time and had sent my niece and sister away so I could deal with it.
Then you call the cops and they put you on hold, mean while the buggers are scrummbling up the roof (that's how buglers do over here), and give you another number to call that is to a cop shop 45 kilometres away, you argue with the idiot operator to call the number herself or give you one to a closer cop shop..."Sorry that is the number we have to the station closest to you," she says.
You howl for the awesome neighbours who are quick to the rescue in 10 minutes.
So you go and report to the cops next day and the idiot reception cop says, "Don't sleep too heavily,... they are looking for something for their own Chrismas feast," (translated from Swahili.

Got the roof fixed today. I can't quite get it permanently fixed as it's still a temporary roof. The lack of a ceiling made it too easy for the bastards. Will be moving out again in six months and use money saved on rent to finish phase two of construction.

No, they did not take anything. I figured they were expecting to find my family asleep and take money from us. The fact that they returned the next night confirmed this. If they'd wanted to take electronics they'd have brought metal cutters.
They did leave me a whole lot of muddy foot prints and burnt match sticks, though.

Health insurance companies.
My company just switched from Aetna to Horizon. I mention this to my boyfriend and he goes "Horizon HMO SUCKS BALLS!!!" Should have been a sign. Well, before I even have the insurance, they're screwing me over. Everyone else in the company got their new cards and such yesterday, except me. When we called the broker to ask what happened, they contacted Horizon and they said they already had someone in their system with my social security number. Why they couldn't just call us to let us know of the problem instead of just sending everyone else's stuff and figuring I'd just sulk and say "Oh well, no insurance for me" is beyond comprehension. So, they need me to fax my social security card over to verify that I'm the rightful owner of that number, and of course I can't find it. I have to find the Federal Building in Paterson (not exactly the nicest area of NJ) and stand in line at the Social Security Office to get a replacement. Joy. In the meantime, I have a doctor's appointment on Monday for a shot that has to be administered within a 5-day-or-so window, otherwise it's not as effective. Double joy.
I'm sure you're all thinking identity theft - that has crossed my mind, but I do pay monthly for a credit-watch type of service and there are no alerts, no new inquiries or applications, nothing. So we're thinking that Horizon made a clerical error and put in the wrong number or that because I had Horizon under my parents' insurance like 10 years ago, perhaps they're just seeing the duplicate number from way back then but not bothering to check the name and realizing "Duh! It's the same number because it's the same person!"
I'm looking forward to resolving this.
NOT!

When people draw their crop marks right along the whole edge of their artwork. We just printed some invitations and there are dotted lines on some of the edges of the card.
When making crop marks, make them crop marks set a few mm away from your artwork and not borders around your artwork!

What is it about the concept of "walking in single file" that women just don't get?
If I'm walking down a hallway where there is only room for one person to pass in either direction, why is it that I have to be pushed up against the wall when two women are coming from the other direction? Why can't they walk in single file so that I can pass by like a normal person?
I have never had this happen with men, only women.

My photoshop teacher at school jerks my chain. I had a damn good GPA of 3.84, and she gave me a C, which combined with my Gov't grade (my fault I know ) dropped it to a 2.4. She apparently thinks I don't spend enough time in the development process. This really makes me mad, because I spend just as much time and effort as a friend of mine, whom I sit next to, and she's making an A. She doesn't question my skills in photoshop what so ever, but since I don't spend enough time in that development stage, she gave me that grade, WHICH ISNT FAIR BECAUSE ANOTHER FRIEND OF MINE HASNT BEEN IN CLASS FOR 3 WEEKS BACK TO BACK AND HES MAKING THE SAME GRADE AS ME!!!! I just don't get it, I'm talking to the head of the department tomorrow.

Mugs really do develop a large amount of sentimental value don't they! My husband still brings up the time that his brother smashed his 2000AD mug that he won against the wall in a fit of teenage rage. Maybe one day I will search down a replacement on ebay or something, after all, they gave them out to everyone that had a letter printed in 2000AD, so there must be a few still around. Good luck with the crazy glue.

So, I'm running late to catch the early bus to work this morning. It had rained all nioght last night so, as is customary, I wore my Wellington boots and carried apair of shoes to change when I got to the tarmac near the bustop. Seeing as I was already short of time, I decided to take a short cut through an unfenced section of a neighbouring plot. This would shave off a crutial 8 mins. I get half way and find a pile of weeds (uprooted weeds) in the muddy foot path. No worries I can jump over...so I do... I loose my footing and my boot slides under me and I sit on my muddy boot heel...It, could've been worse I think to myself.
Needless to say, my light pink trousers are all muddy in the seat. But I'm already nearly late and closer to the bustop than I am to the house, so I have to go on to work and get cleaned up there.
On the way I have to deal with stares, and people pointing out to me that the seat of my pants is muddy.
Gah! I wish I'd worn Brown or black today!

In the end it only took me an hour to compile all that. I haven't burned the CDs yet, but shouldn't take too long to burn it. Sweet. All the fuss for nothing I guess.
I guess that leaves to some spare time to contribute to activities like ...
A police-led initiative of spraying water on state highways to release the trapped spirits of those killed in motor crashes has been declared a success.
Yesterday a special police convoy carrying Maori elders sprayed 10,000 litres of Waikato River water on SH1 and SH2 in a bid to free the spirits of crash victims.
Dick Waihi, iwi liaison officer for the Counties-Manukau police district, today said the operation had been successful.
"About 35 people turned up to support us," Mr Waihi said. "It was very successful.
"It was a first for the country and we have had some really good feedback."
Maori elders consider the combination of blessed river water and prayers to be a trigger for the release of the spirits of those trapped by violent deaths on the roads.
Water was pumped from the Waikato River into a tanker at Tuakau by the New Zealand Fire Service.
From 5.30am the convoy drove south from Mt Wellington to Mercer on SH1, and then along SH2 to Maramarua.
The ceremonial spraying was interrupted at Mercer and Maramarua, where a karakia was performed.
Mr Waihi said the 2½-hour exercise was cost-free, with people donating labour and resources.
Despite the prayers, Mr Waihi said the exercise was non-religious and not just for Maori fatalities.
"Some people don't have an understanding why we are doing it. They should find out more about Maori protocols before making comment."
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Leo Tooman had no problems with the initiative.
"Anything that helps is worthwhile, isn't it?"

One of our clients just pulled a job. I'm not that mad since it's not freelance work - I still get paid my wages. But there was revision after revision and then she goes and pulls the job. It was referred by a broker, so the broker is also annoyed at the job being pulled.
I thought that I had followed all her instructions. There were a lot of revisions - normally I take it as a positive thing. To me it means that the client knows what they want.
I guess at her end she was sick of me know knowing exactly what she wanted without having to explain it to me. Kinda had when you don't get to meet the person or have much to do with them.
That's one reason I dislike brokers. The broker originally gave me the brief (one of those free reign types) when it turned out their client had strict style guides, which of course I hadn't followed for the first proof, because I hadn't been provided with anything. But after a few revisions I really thought I had got it right.
Oh well...you win some...

We have a broker who brings us projects, and he asked that I send a pdf directly to his client since time is of the essence (when isn't it?). No problem, I send the file and within the body of the email I mention "Please let Bob (the broker) if you have any changes." After all, it's his client and he's responsible for being the middle-man. So the guy calls me with the changes.

This is very similiar to Virgo's post:
I have been dealing with a printer, who prefers me to send him e-mails, but he doesn't read the e-mails all the way through and misses the print instructions!!! HELLOOOOO it's all in writing so we don't have to rely on verbal communication only. He sent me a quote for 2 different print quantities...I reply that I want quanitity b, I send him the quantity again when I post to the FTP site, and the job shows up today in the smalller quantity. It's not like he doesn't get my e-mails, when I send an e-mail saying that I have sent a job and I list a few questions, I get a one word response "Great!"
Did he even notice that I had a nice clean, numbered list of questions that needed to be answered? And BTW it's not like my e-mails are paragraphs, They are short 4 sentence e-mails, must be laziness. I have the same problem with a client, who will not answer basic questions via e-mail, yet that is his prefered method of contact. I know I get swammped in my inbox, but if I am responding on something important, the least I can do is answer the question!

The heat doesn't bother me as I'm almost always cold. But it pisses me off in summer when the AC is crankin' at 60 degrees. Do these people realize that since it's summer I might enter your store wearing a tank top and will leave when I realize that people are staring at me because I'm shivering so hard they think I'm having a seizure?

I am feeling the same way. That would have been a big move for me and want to make sure its for the right job.
Im not into the political side of that either. I have been toldin the past by many that I am a good manager, even though officially I am NOT a manager. I just don't know what else to do but just be another cog in the wheel of the company. I have no or little faith in most of a the managers at my work anymore.
Well, no use whining about it anymore. I just gotta keep truckin' on finding new work so I can tell these idiots to kiss me arse. (of course I will do it in a politically correct way without burning my bridges). Somewheres out there has to be a place that will utilize me and my skills and not try to snuff me out just because I am ambitious.

Me: Do you want me to take some?
Boss: No, I'll take some and email them to you.
In my head: **Great...**
Later That Day-
Boss: I got the photos. They turned out kind of dark, can you "photoshop them" so you can see stuff?
Me: Some of these are completely black, why did they turn out so dark? What setting was the camera on?
Boss: I dont know,... "Scene"
Me: What scene?
Boss: Just scene.
Me: It should have options of specific scenes. Could I see the camera? ...You were taking pictures in a poorly lit factory and you have it set on "beach/Snow Scene" thats why they are black.
Boss: Well you can just put them in photoshop and add a flash right?

Me: What do you have in mind?
Boss: Something where all the letters in our company name spin around quickly and spell out different words, like leadership, change, you know things like that. But it has to look sexy.
Co-worker: Well cmont took a flash class last semester he might be able to do something for you.
Boss: Well he's not at that level yet.
Me: (Jaw drops).
Boss: Maybe after another few classes you can design something and sell it to us.
Ok so maybe I havent taken Flash classes forever but this man hasn't even seen the work i've done in flash. Not to mention I used director for years before switching to flash. ugh, i love it when people judge and don't have a basis to do so. I think I might just have to design something flashy and sexy and show it to him and be like, but I can't sell it to you cause I don't know how to export it, they didnt show me how in class yet.
