Got a client that said she is coming this morning. It is now just after 12 and I'm hungry so I'm going to lunch. But I just know she will come any moment now and be mad that I'm not here!

If she doesn't know the difference between afternoon and morning then she'll learn when she finds you out to lunch and if she knows the difference between morning and afternoon, but can't be arsed to let you know she's running late, then she deserves to be punished, which she will be, when she finds that you are out to lunch. Go eat Buda!

Incidentally, this should cheer you up (http://paper.sanwasupply.co.jp/craft/dollhouse/index.html)(if you're still wanting paper models). I built a couple for my two year old last night and she's had no end of fun with them!

The client arrived when I walked out the front door. It looked like I was standing there to greet her. At least she didn't stay more than half an hour and I got my lunch now so I am much happier!

Those paper models are cool Frankster. When I went to visit my grandfather's ashes site in Hong Kong, they have rooms and rooms of these cabinets set into walls where family members come to visit ashes. Each the the cabinets (1 foot x 1 foot) are decorated like a room full of mini things that that person liked in living. Those models remind me of those.

First thing in my inbox this morning is an email from a pro bono job that was done over a month ago for a cause that I really support. The group I did it for "needed to be done in a rush to go to print asap". The email is roughly along the lines of "Hi, only just getting to this now, but can you send it to us as a word document, so we can move things around to make room for another logo to go in there"

NO MORE SOUP FOR YOU!

I love it when blokes don't know thier flies are down and you can just smile at them, look down at thier crotch briefly and then wink at them. It usually takes them a couple of confused seconds to register that you're not coming on to them in a ridiculously brazen way and then they notice the flies and get I'd estimate an extra 200% more embarrassed than if you'd just told them.

Back when I worked at Target, one day when I was stocking some shelves there was a very attractive young lady who came up to me and asked me a question about where something was, and after I told her she said thanks, then turned around, and I couldn't help but notice (by "couldn't help", I mean I "was staring directly at") a large sticker on the buttside of her pants, specifically on the right cheek area (a minor detail I happened to remember). I went ahead and told her about it in about as much as a way as I could without sounding like a complete perv, but I think I failed anyway as she turned around and said nothing and took it off herself. I mean, c'mon, I was just trying to help! I wisely (or unwisely) opted not to grab it off my own self.

I can't tell you how many times I've worn a new pair of jeans and forgotten to take off that long sticker that goes down the leg so you can see what size the pair is when it's folded and on the shelf. And no one has ever mentioned it to me. I always figure it out when I'm taking them off. Thanks, people.

I did that yesterday... I bought some new jeans last thursday (the day before I found out i'd be laid off, mind you) and yesterday my boss said," new jeans?" i said yeah, then he said they must be with the sticker running down my back leg...

AGGGH! Sorry this is so long but I didnt feel my rant deserved a whole thread, so read on if you'd like.

So. In May, I had my first review. I asked for a larger raise than they were offering me. The VP (my boss) said he’d give me the initial raise they proposed and then he’d talk to the Prez about more. A few days later I went to him “so… what’d the prez say?”

“uh, I don’t know, you should write a report about why you deserve more.” Fine. Did it that night gave it to the VP the next day. A few days later, I ask “so what’d the prez say?”

“uh, we don’t know yet… blah blah blah” so I said screw it. Went to the prez’s office and asked what was going on.

“Oh, the VP didn’t really talk to me. I’ll talk to him and let you know.” A few days later, I asked the VP, whats going on? “uh, we have to have HR research median salaries for your job.” A few days later I asked what’s going on? And they still didn’t have an answer. Its Aug now and as far as I’m concerned, my raise is still pending.

So… two weeks ago word got around that I wasn’t happy and I heard through the grapevine that I was going to get a new boss and be reporting to the head of sales instead of the VP (Because he was the reason Im so unhappy here) Well head of sales told me that she’s my boss in effect in a week and that the VP and prez would talk to me about it. Prez said he didn’t have time and he’d talk to me last Friday… and didn’t. Then said hed talk to me today… and didn’t.

That was a week ago. Now, I don’t know who my boss is, who I report to or who I take orders from. Why am I the only one who doesn’t know what’s going on with my job??

So, I’m officially looking for work again. Now all I need to know is what is my “reason for leaving current job?” I don’t know, they refuse to communicate? They’re jerks? They’re too big of cowards to tell me I can’t have a raise? They’re afraid of confrontation? They’re a bunch of a-holes? Their lack of communication is not only the reason they are loosing me but also why the internal structure of the company is falling apart? AAGGGHHH!

RAAARRRR!!! FRANKSMASH!!!!

We needed to hire a rental car and wanted the cheapest thing possible. Went to the local enterprise and got a shock at the cost, because they didn't have any economy ones left, asked if they had any at the other enterprise less than half a mile down the road and the enterprise we were in said "oh, no they don't have any either". Come back to look online and find that after we signed the contract for the hire, oh yes they did have them half a mile down the road and at HALF THE PRICE!!! How can an international car hire company charge double the rates for the same thing within a half mile area!?!?! What the hell?!

budafist

Because there are heartless people out there looking to make some money.

I watched a programme last night that researched mobile stores that drive around poor neighborhoods "selling" everyday items to the poor. They give the products to them on credit so eat now, pay later.

3 cans of spaghetti (yuck) costs less than $2 at the supermarket but these mobile stores were charging $12 for the same thing. They are ripping off people that are too poor to buy food! I guess educating the poor is the main thing. I always shop around when making a big purchase but little purchases people should know how much things cost normally and pay accordingly. Apparently the law can't do anything because if people agree to pay $12 for 3 tins of spaghetti, then that's their problem.

These poor people should really be going to food banks. There is all the tinned spaghetti you can can eat for free there!

I would definitely complain Frankster, that's just wrong.

A while back, we rented a car, they promised us an economy, when we got to the place it turns out they'd been wrong about the availability of the economy, so they rented us a mini-SUV (what they had available) at the same price that they were going to charge us for the economy. Sometimes the squeaky wheel thing really does work.

How can an international car hire company charge double the rates for the same thing within a half mile area!?!?! What the hell?!

A lot of the big corporations have pricing tiers depending on location / region. For example: I live in between two Blockbuster video stores, each one is about a 5 minute drive away they are both on the same street. The only difference is competition. I save about a buck per movie/game if I rent from the store near a Hollywood Video vs the one that has no competition.

frankster
08-15-2007, 06:30 PM
Looks like that might be the case here then MD. I'm just shocked that they can alter prices within the company that wildly. I didn't expect it at all because I've never encountered it in the UK. I expect prices to vary across the US, but not within a half mile! BASTARDOS!

Me: seeing that the Access document has dropdown menus and a database behind it Well, I cant just 'drop it in' but I can code it and it might take me a while.
Boss: Why should it take long, cant you just copy and paste? or insert the file?
Me: no, you need to write code for it. I can do it but i cant just copy and paste
Boss: Well you just drop-in excel documents all the time!
Me:
Boss: pulls up website and shows me a page with a data table on it See? This is our excel document!
Me: I had to code that, its a simple table but its not "excel"

Me, right now its my neighbor!! He's a nice enough guy (although if you say hi you have to be prepared to listen to him go on and on for a half hour), but his wife is the full time income provider and he works part time and is the one who shuffles his three kids around to school and various practices. Their daughter is 2 years older than my oldest and they are friends. Since I work from home....he figures I am a free built in babysitter!! I swear every time I step out the door he is there poking his head into my drive way making small talk that inevitably leads to him asking some sort of favor. GAAAHHHHH!!!! Speaking of watching kids...

Over the summer breaks, my boss sometimes brings in his kids. In and of itself, no big deal. One is 13 and his dad actually pays him to do random tasks around the office like filing, watching the laser printer refilling the paper when needed on a long print run, taking out the garbage, etc. His daughter is 9, and she's really hyper and gets really freakin' BORED. And when her father goes out to run an errand, he'll just leave her here. And we have to watch her. If we don't, she'll eat ALL the candy and get even more hyper (she learns from Dad who has a major sweet tooth but is also diabetic). And it's not like he says, "Hey I have to step out, watch Pam for a little bit." Nope. He asks his daughter, "I have to run an errand, do you want to come with me or stay with Dawn?" <-(a co-worker who also brings in her kids, but they're pretty well-behaved and she NEVER leaves them here; Pam LOVES her because she's the only one who has kids and thus has the patience to deal with her.) She doesn't get paid to babysit, he pays her to design, but just assumes it's okay to leave her here so she can jump on Dawn's chair, babble incessantly, distract everyone etc.

LOL Virgo, Jacki and Ckret!!!

Wow, that's presumptious of your boss Virgo! I'd never expect someone to just watch my kids, especially in an office setting. My youngest is 4 and she tends to be "exuberantly energetic" (aka hyper). Once when I took her to visit her grandparents at their paint store when she was around 2 she unfiled an entire filing cabinet. Not good! So I know how it can be with kids + office.

Yeah, I'll tell my neighbor all my closets are full. Full of all the kids other people try to pawn off on me. Hahaha. The worst thing is, he doesn't ask for a time down the road, its ususally right then and there on the spot. Once he came out and said (always loudly to his daughter but so I can hear), "Oh, do you want to go to the store with me, or play with the girls next door (meaning mine, meaning I want her to babysit you)" then to me he said, "I have to run my (other daughter) to the sporting goods store, and we have her friend here, we can't all fit in the pickup.....so......(hint hint) can she maybe play with your girls? I was thinking, what was he planning to do had I not walked outside? Sometimes I am feeling charitable and it is fun and keeps my kids busy, but other times (such as not 2 hours ago when my aunt and uncle were here visiting from out of town) I can't figure out why he'd send her over to me when we very obviously have company. Ah well. Sometimes I just cut him off and distract before he gets to ask and then I get out of ear shot from him. I don't want to be rude, but I also do not want to be taken advantage of.

1) Employees bitching that one is 'anti-social' at work, yet has no idea what has been going on in their personal life.

2) Jobs that come back form the project manager asking me if the street address on the peice is correct. I don't know, isn't that YOUR job to find out?

3) requesting the same change over and over and over again, even though it makes no sense and it gramatically incorrect and has speeling errors throughout it. So I fix them, and then you bitch that I modified your precious copy....

Luckily I don't have that problem as our Copy Editor is very good and the few times she is out, I can easily spot errors.

And I too have heard your Number One before, or something close to it...like why I don't seem to associate with my co-workers but when they threw an office party, I was only told the night beofre and had to 'bring a dish' too, so that made it fun t know i was 'thought of'

Eastern Iowa, unfortunately. I'll be looking local first, I'm not exactly loaded with cash so if I need to move, it's gotta be cheap.

All this off work time will allow me to get my portfolio going, at least. It needs a good dusting.

The van died again. It's the starter motor this time. Works if you lay a nice bit of 2x4 on it and you belt it with a lump hammer, but we need to get a new starter motor. "Hit it with a big stick" isn't a long term solution. :(

aww, Frank, that sucks. You seem to be having car troubles lately.

Might I just add that my day today totally sucked? It takes a lot to piss me off at work. One thing that's sure to do it is a new business presentation, generally handled by someone else at work with no organizational skills whatsoever, but it's pretty much all she does, so it's her niche. When I get to jump into the fray, it's like walking into a rain forest filled with black mambas, everything's all over the place, files are linked to her hard drive, etc.

Well, not right now. I left on very good terms, and even though I'm jobless, I definitely left a great impression with them and they said I had a great attitude about the work and such (yes, me and "great attitude" in the same sentence...), so I was let down rather softly.

The position was production, and initially it was more entry level, but they are looking for someone with quite a bit of experience in the field, and pretty much able to hit the ground running as soon as they come in, working on some rather elaborate projects. If it was more watered down like what I was doing, I was told I'd have been a strong candidate for it. They said they'd keep me in mind in the future though, and that comment had more confidence behind it than just "We'll keep your resume on file".

All that said though, now I'm raking in no money. :( Sent out a few apps today though. We'll see how it goes.

Urst: no he is not, sometimes I do wonder. But he is not, just a asshat.

Buda: I seriously doubt he was drunk. It was 9 at night and he had just got off of work. So unless he was drunk at work, i doubt it. He works out and is HUGE. But luckily I am still larger than he is. He is only about 6'0" not sure about weight, I am 6'4" 190 lbs, average build. Luckily for me He doesn't cut his hair often and it is rather longer (mine is short and spikey) so grabbing a hand full of it and yanking down on it so his face is pointed towards the ground really helps him not see where the person is he is fighting.... hehe :p

If I am going to fight, I will fight MY WAY to ensure I won't get hurt, but I definately will not ever throw the first punch. But once you do, I will stand up for those around me. Brother or not....

Sorry for being slightly rude last night, was stressful. But THANK YOU for your concern everyone, it definately helped me talk things out a bit.

I spoke with the ex-gf and she suggested that since he works out often, the attitude swing might be related to steriods. I will bring it up to my parents and let them deal with it. That last thing I wanna do is fight the jerk again...

The director of a company we deal with has been away for the last few weeks and we've been dealing with her 2CI instead. They recently had a brochure designed and printed and asked for 20 copies. Being such a small run, the brochures ended up cost around $40 each when dividing up the design cost and print costs. The director has come back now and she called me to ask me why we would contemplate printing such a small amount. She said that small run prices were ridiculous and that we should have told the 2IC that it was not feasible to print a brochure for $40 per piece.

I told her that we do small runs of brochures for presentation only all the time and that she would have to talk to her 2IC as to why he ordered so few. I also passed her onto our sales guy, but I'm sure he will say the same.

I mean what does she want me to do about it?

Then she told me there were many factual errors in the brochure - so ultimately, it was pretty lucky we only printed 20 copies!? Because they will have to be reprinted...

I didn't get the blame this time because I wasn't even aware of the quantities they ordered. Thank goodness I don't have to do quotes.

Our sales guy asked the director of the company if she wanted him to run everything this is ever ordered by her company past her before we printed stuff, but she said no. That was a bit over the top for her.

If you don't trust your staff with doing their job, put some checks in place like signing off of budgets and quotes. That's what normal people do. Don't blame your suppliers for giving you exactly what your staff ordered!

right away knowing how cheap this family is I said sorry I am very busy with a few big clients, he repeated my words very sarcastically.

 That's not nice. One of my closest friend's mother once wanted me to make business cards for her.....she wanted a logo, but when we met, it became very apparent that she basically wanted me to steal a logo from someone in her same industry, and use that on her card. I flat out told her no, if she wanted to do that she could just head on over to Kinkos and have them do it for her. So she asked if I could create one for her similar, I said sure, gave her a quote and she never got back to me. This was a few years ago. Now her daughter (my friend) has asked me to create a business card and logo...this will be a fun project (not sarcastic here as we have collaborated creatively over the past 15 years)...and in discussion, her father mentioned he had a business associate who wanted cards done, but when my name came up, he said "oh yeah, we can't use her, she's way too expensive" Now mind you, I am good friends with her parents, and I gave her mom a very reasonable price for what she was asking, she just had it in her mind she'd get a free logo out of using the one she wanted to "borrow." Obviously I won't be getting recommendations from her parents, but at least my friend is aware her parents are a little unrealistic, and I don't think I'd want to work with their friends anyway. Ugh!

That seems to be the way things roll around here. And then, even though I clearly state in the email with the pdf to contact the broker with any changes he has (it's only HIS job to take these changes and be the go-between), he calls me to make his nitpicky revisions. Can you zoom in on the picture of the building just a bit? Can you make the text there a little smaller? Can you add our phone number and address? TELL YOUR BROKER. That's what you pay him for. If they still ask you to do it, just tell him that "it will throw the hours in the book keeping off by me taking time do to these changes now on the spot. Thus pushing others project deadlines back. Freakin' human resources wonks drive me insane!

Since my introductory/probationary period is now over for my new job, I am trying to get benefits. Before signing up, I would like more information so that I can make informed decisions. Makes sense, right? However, getting this information is like getting blood from a stone.

Is this something they teach in HR school? "Don't provide any information unless you are specifically asked for it. Even then, do your best to dodge the question. Better yet, answer a different question altogether!"

It's been this way with every HR department I have ever had the displeasure of trying to interact with. My wife actually has a decent HR department, so she just can't comprehend why I cringe and mumble angry things under my breath every time she asks me to find out something from my HR. I dread going to the dentist far, far less than trying to get an answer out of human resources. And at least my teeth are clean when I leave the dentist's; when I leave HR, I'm just angry...

Every year we change our sales pitchcards for our sales centers to be have a holiday style theme on them. Every year the outdoor sales centers have gotten lights around the logo at the top of the page, and indoors sales center got holly around the logo. Been this like this for 4+ years, never had an issue with it.

This year they want snow around that border of the page. Not normally an issue, but we don't have snow (south Florida). Nor can we photograph snow and fluff it up with photoshop (live in South Florida). So we inform the client of this. What do they say?

me: yes but i would have to draw up some flowers
boss: well how about if we scan some photos.
me: nope i still need to draw flowers.
boss: what if we scan fabric with flowers on it.
me: nope still need to draw it.
boss: ok well we'll have to see about this then.

he brings this to me after he tells me that i need to have a catalog done by the end of october!!! not to mention i have the other departments catalog to do too!!! neither department has given me a count of items they want in the catalog or anything. the next 2 months are going to very annoying.

We were suppose to get hit by a hurricane this morning. So in anticipation of sleeping in we threw a hurricane party last night. When I woke up this morning and realized it wasn't raining I checked the news only to find out the damn thing turned and we won't get any rain.

Everyone in the office knows I am hungover. They have been turning on my light, yelling, dropping metal objects in the hall. I need to find a way to get them to stop. Any suggestions?

Ditto^ on that! And now back to our regularly scheduled topic: things that jerk my chain...

i've been having pain in my right arm off and on for about 2 yrs and only recently got health insurance. So I go to a specialist thinking that it'll knock out the middleman (regualr doc-who would just send me to a specialist anyway) and save the $10 co-pay. Well, each visit to the specialist is a $20 co-pay. So here i am 3 visits to the specialist and one quite painful electro-shock test thing to the nerves in my arm and the doctor says, "well, the test results were inconclusive. would you like to just leave it at that?" WTF is that? leave it at that? I mean, he gave me a scrip for some pretty powerful nerve pain meds but I can only take them at night becuz they make me groggy (I mostly have pain during the day). I mean, why would I just leave it? Hell, no I don't want to leave it, I want to know what is wrong with my arm?!! So, now I have to go see another specialist, and I couldn't get an appointment with him for another month! But when I do, you can be guaranteed he'll get at least 2 more visits from me (another $40!) I mean, I didn't expect some magic wand waving, but I am really disappointed that so far I'm out $60 in visits and another $40 or so for meds and they still haven't told me what's wrong with me other than "we think its radial compression of a nerve" ORLY? what nerve? Where? and why?

I feel yur pain WannaBrie. When I fell wrong on my ankle I went to the foot doctor. I had to do physical therapy 3 times a week for 2 months. well at $20 a visit the co-pay really started to stack up! BUt then I thought about how much it was ACTUALLY costing and I smiled and sucked up the $20 each time.

Now my ankle is pretty close to being 100%, still have some pain in it when I step wrong. But it is WAY improved to what it was....

Derfie

I had DeQuervains Tendonitis in my right wrist (too much tablet use) a year ago, and I had to see the Physical Therapist 3 times a week, at $40 per visit, for 2 months.

I pay for my insurance out of pocket through my own business, plus seeing a doctor is $20 per visit, and the specialist is $40. I went to a doctor recently about a problem I had, and he told me he didn't know what it was, gave me some generic medicine, and told me it would a waste of time to see a apecialist. Needless to say I went to the Specialist, and now I have to go for a follow up, again $40 per visit. Although I can't complain-I am lucky to have insurance.

If you spend a certain amount in co-pays and prescriptions, your medical costs can become tax detuctible.

To the douchebag that wouldn't let me into his lane on the highway today:

In order to get where I needed to go, yes I had to get into your lane, or I would end up on a different highway. Traffic was already moving slowly, so it's not like you would have had to make a big effort to let me in. In fact, you wouldn't have even needed to hit the brakes, just eased up off your freakin' gas pedal for a second, a$$hole. Just because you're driving a big pickup truck and I drive an Accord doesn't mean that "MINE IS BIGGER, I WIN!"

I hope you get run over by a semi, asswipe. Yes, I really mean it, and no, I won't feel bad if it really does happen. If I read in the paper tomorrow, "Douchebag driving silver Dodge pickup while wearing baseball cap killed by out-of-control tractor-trailer dies horrific painful death," I will smile. You really got to be carefull with that pain Brie. Is it work related? I mean is it from using the mouse? If you think it is mouse related, try using something different like a wacom or another thing. Is your mouse hand cold when you are working? That can make pain worse. I had pain in my right index finger and my mother (she's been working on work related injury insurance for 12 years) took one look and me and told me that it was because it was too cold in my office. She was right. I warmed up my hand and I was fine.

I'm not sure if its work related or not Buda, but it the pain was terrible about 2 yrs ago and that's when I switched to a wacom tablet. Its defitnitely not carpal tunnel, though. its nerve pain that used to feel like my arm and elbow were on fire. Since I switched, its eased up and now its mostly just pins and needles in my right arm and fingers. Also, if I put my elbow down wrong, its like the funny bone pain times 1000. If I rest my weight on either elbow, I get the pins & needles in my arm. It sucks. But I can relate to the cold thing also...its always freezing in the am in my office.

Cheaper than $30 a month for the pill with no insurance! Once you factor in the cost of the little vial of Depo itself every 3 months in addition to the copay for bringing it in for them to inject me with it, it works out to about the same amount per year (they don't keep it at the gyno's office, I have to pick it up from the pharmacy like any other prescription). The pill wasn't a viable option for me. I'm HORRIBLE at remembering to take vitamins or medication on a daily basis, and if it's something I'm supposed to take at the same time every day, I'm doubly screwed.

I was once in Maine, driving a little over the speed limit on Rte. 302. I went to make a left turn, and some woman who had been tailgating me for over mile yelled out her window "GO HOME!" as she went by. Just because I didn't want to do 70mph in a 35mph zone. Gee, thanks. It's not like your state is dependent upon tourist dollars, or anything.

So anyway, I just see it as a human being problem more than a New Jersey problem. We just have a higher population than any other state, which translates into more stupid per square mile.

Why, why, why do designers feel the need to be creative with everything on a package design?

If you're designing graphics for packaging, please note:

You can't change the dieline just because you don't like it. A packaging engineer has already determined the structure, and isn't going to change it on a whim.

Don't screw around with the Drug Facts formatting. Let me repeat: Don't screw around with the Drug Facts formatting. Let me repeat that again: Don't screw around with the Drug Facts formatting. Just don't. If you don't know how to format Drug Facts, talk to someone who does. If you feel the need to be creative, do it somewhere else.
Thank you.

Would this also apply to street pharmacologist and their packaging?

*examines dark green folder to apply text to*

*hears from the other side of the table* "I like the color pink, some hot pink text would look good."

Something that jerks my chain:

Designing twelve package designs, meeting an extremely short deadline, and copying and pasting the text straight from a text doc my client gave me, and having him call me outraged because there's a typo, and wanting the revisions done immediately.

One more thing that jerks my chain:
Run on sentences, like the one I just wrote.

Why do people wait till the last minute of Fridays and want some odd job quoted? Every Friday, different customer, different print job, and they want the quote by the end of the day! OK, enough wasting time, let me run to estimating and quote this out real quick!

Is it not okay to put the drug facts in comic sans? That should be fine. I think the FDA is going to make that the standard starting in 2009.

Okay, my chain was REALLY jerked yesterday...

I work for an architectural firm as an in-house graphic designer. Well, we had a proposal due yesterday that had to be delivered by 2pm (time stamped, 2:01pm would not have been accepted). So we stayed lated working on it the night before, I did the input into InDesign from Word yesterday morning and formatted the entire 60 page document as well as project example sheets and resumes. Come crunch time (noonish), the marketing assistant and I were running through the office, printing, collating, binding (13 copies by the way)...and what does our boss do? She went to lunch...a 3 hour lunch!!!!! We obviously needed a hand with what we were doing but she left. She does that all the time! She has never seen a proposal actually get packaged and shipped or hand-delivered. She usually says "looks like you guys have it under control"...sha...right...as if.

Oh by the way, the proposal was stamped at 1:59. Whew! The marketing assistant and I were 'released' for the day around 4 and both of us were starving because, yes, we didn't get to eat lunch...she did though.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

boss comes to me for logo design for the eco friendly line we are working on. he doesn't have/give me a name for the line. i come up with a few ideas that i think look good. he doesn't like any of them and then tells me a name he wants! that's not so bad but he wants to include a smiley face in the logo =[

Yesterday:
Hey, we're taking a loss on this contract, we're probably going to need to cut some people if we don't get this other contract (0 for 11 so far...).

Koolaid man: Oooooooooohhhhhhh Yeaeeaaaaaah.

Next time, when you are done, put it on your boss' desk and then say you wanted final approval on it from teh boss before sending off. then maybe the 3-hour lunch wont be as long....although it would most likely end you out of a job, but a nice thought.

Boss: Jackie, this spreadsheet for [our big customer] that you emailed me, did it have all these mistakes on it when you sent it to them?
Me: I didn't send [big customer anything]
Boss: I forwarded the email you sent me with it attached.
Me: The email I sent you said specifically for you and the VP of sales to review and approve it and only then send it out.
Boss: Oh. Well I didnt read your email I just sent it.

What??? Who does that? It was pricing and descriptions of almost 1,000 new parts for our customer. I am confident in my work, when I sent it to my boss, I was confident that it was accurate. However, I am human. I make mistakes. I should not be the only person looking at this damn thing! Ive been staring at it for weeks, gets a little monotonous. Then, the VP of sales asked why I sent it before she reviewed it and got back to me. wtf? AAGGGHH.

Luckily the engineering department ordered pizza today and Im going to get a piece :)

Decided to look nice and wear a tie to work today. No special reason at all. If 1 more person comes up to me and asks me what the occasion is, or if I have a job interview elsewhere I am going to shoot someone *loads gun*...

Can't a guy just take pride in his appearance and look nice?? :D

TBK ... I understand what you mean ... there was a woman I worked with years ago that was always calling her kids when they got home from school and giving them a list of things to do and arguing with them about it... every single day. It drove me nuts.

I feel your pain. It's all relative isn't it. I spent most of my late teens and early twenties looking like an explosion in goodwill, with flamingo pink hair, so when I "dressed up" for uni graduation or weddings etc people used to make such a frickin fuss, like them making a fuss was somehow going to make me want to dress like that all the time. People used to say things like "Oh my goodness! I didn't know you had legs!" or "you clean up well". I'm not so extreme with my look these days, more retired hippy than eco warrior, but I am tempted to do the pink hair just once more to give the kids a laugh. I even went to a formal university ball in a homemade floor length silver ball gown with pink hair. I looked like I should have been on a date with Captain Kirk!
