Can anyone advise - I've been looking for an A3 printer that I can use for printing visuals and roofs etc. I use an eMac with Quark, illustrator, photoshop etc. and understand that I need a postscript printer.
Thing is, I've been offered an Epson Stylus Pro 5000 printer and 'RIP Station (PC)' by my local litho printer (who has just upgraded his proofing printer) at a very good price, but with no software. Not exactly sure what RIP is and if I need it or not, or can I just download a printer driver?
(Sorry if I appear as a complete idiot, but I've been out of the design business for a ew years and now coming back in - too many years on a PC, I know).

Help - Where do I start!?!?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 and it's great. It does up to super A3. It's a decent little printer. i have done proofs on it.

I also have that Epson 5000. that is ok but depending on what OS you are running it might not work. I'm on Panther here at work and it doesn't see it. Epson just doesn't support it. I have a fiery front end and my puuter sees that but it just spools and doesn't come out.

Sounds good - is it a post script printerand/or does it print Quark documents poorly with jagged edges on fonts and placed pictures??

Did you have 'RIP' software to install the 5000 onto Mac, or just a printer driver??

just the printdriver and it does a fine job out of Quark.

Any idea where I can get a driver for it, seeing as how it's not supported?
