Making a Book Specs?

I am designing a book for a client of mine. I was wondering if anyone has any resources of where I can find out if there is a common or standard in paperback book sizes or fonts. Any info would be extremly helpful. I have been researching it on google, but I can't seem to find a specific answer.

Is it like a novel with just text and a cover? Or will it have images throughout?

it's a book that will contain various photos . the topic is plastic surgery. i think the photos might be grayscale or maybe have a seperate photo section.
