Just done some homework.

http://www.sleevetown.com/images/cd-calendar3.jpg

CASE SIZE - all from differing sources.
118mm x 138mm (sheet size?)
142mm X 127mm X 9mm (case size?)
5-5/8" x 4-15/16" x 1/4" for those who haven't updated to metric :D
Holds sheets sized w119 x h138mm. Prints tray is 6mm deep.
Looks like it might vary. We may need to choose a supplier first confirm size before doing the designs. Or risk the hassle of resizing to fit later.

CASE ONLY - clear cases.
www.casemedia.co.nz (http://www.casemedia.co.nz/product/138/CDCalendarCase.boss) $0.65NZ or $0.44US
www.effectuality.com (https://www.effectuality.com/store/item.php/name/Calendar_Case/product/view/itemid/79/catid/9/store/us/lng/en) From $0.24US each ($0.228 each for 200-499 pieces)
www.calendarcase.com (http://www.calendarcase.com/) $0.35US each (discount for 200+)
www.noshippingfee.com (http://www.noshippingfee.com/00jccdhdclx.html) $0.46US each ($91.60 for 200) red cases avail.

PRINTING INCLUDED 12 pages only
www.4imprint.co.uk (http://www.4imprint.co.uk/Products/sku500777/500777.htm) £3.42 or $6.74US (discount for 250+)
www.createphotocalendars.com (http://www.createphotocalendars.com/communitycalendars.htm) 100+ $3.95 / 200+ $3.45 / 300+ $3.25 / 400+ $2.95. These guys specialise in fundraisers. I assume this is US Dollars. Can someone confirm this?

Please feel free to post any prices you can get. I just did a google search. I can't endorse any of these options.

OK, now I'm more than a little worried that it won't fit 52 sheets of paper. Anyone have one of these CD calendars to test? Even if we print double sided should be ok? That makes 26 sheets - plus 1 for a cover. How many sheets of 100gsm stock can we fit in 6mm slot? 27?

Or there is the DIY one (http://www.24x7digital.com/content/view/31/56/). Where you use an existing CD Cover and take it apart to make a calendar case. It's cheaper - I'm sure we've all got cases lying around, but not as nice for fundraising.

Not to complicate things anymore, but here is what a week-view calendar could look like in a different shaped calendar case.

I like the second shape better, Buda... I've been struggling in my mind over how to stretch 7 days across the calendar, keeping it at a visible size, in a square shaped area. ie, if it was 5"x5", and you put the dates lengthwise, you would end up with squares less than 3/4"! I think we need a calendar that fits more longwise, like the second example.

A weekly calendar should give you space to jot a small note on each day, shouldn't it?

I agree with Ned, the wider format does seem more practical and more dynamic.

I like this one too. It looks like it would hold all of them, plus we could print them on light card stock and not have to worry about binding them. It also looks like from the picture that it folds up into a nice transparent storage box.

I also like the second one. It reminds me of an audio tape cassette case.

***edit*** I hope that it would be larger than a tape case though.

That's what I'm worried about. Looks wider, but I think it's smaller overall.

Bums! Now I got to do my homework again. I'll do it when I get home in about 7 hours. If anyone wants to do it before then go right ahead. :)

Here's some clear Cassette cases: http://www.sleevetown.com/shop/Clear_Cassette_Cases_(10_Pack).htm (http://www.sleevetown.com/shop/Clear_Cassette_Cases_%2810_Pack%29.htm)

Zip disk case would be more square but has a deeper lip for more sheets than the CD case. Probably not deep enough for 52 sheets of card stock but probably enough for bond.

Yikes! We don't want to go to a cassette case, they'd have to really be tiny. If the second one is really the size of a cassette I'd want to go back to the original CD size one way back at the start of this thread. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Good one Drazan, One of those sites of oversize cases:
see pic (http://www.wncsupply.com/jcland.jpg)

Size: 4 3/8" x 7 1/2" x .31" height (outside dims)

As opposed to the standard size: 5.0" x 5.58" x .37" height (outside dims)

These are $0.49US each.

Anyone else got prices for size: 4 3/8" x 7 1/2" x .31" cases?

I'm pretty sure this is the same pic as the long case I posted with the dog pic on it.

Kool

The JCLAND model on Drazen's second link looks promising. (Size: 4 3/8" x 7 1/2" x .31" height (outside dims) I'm assuming the .31 is the overall thickness so the tray part is probably about .25 inches. I bet we can't get 52 in there but we might be able to get 26.

Could anybody who works at a printer maybe go out to the shop and measure how thick 26 & 52 sheets of light card stock and coated bond actually is?

balou
02-08-2007, 01:29 AM
That JCLAND one at Drazans second link looks nice.

Size: 4 3/8" x 7 1/2" x .31"

but only .2" deep for pages. .49/ea. for 200.

Just got this from CVI Calendar Case UK. For the long landscape cases.

They are boxed in 200's
200 @ 40p each
400 @37p each
600 @ 37p each

So far in my research, Rivierapublishing.co.uk is the cheapest at 0.34p each for 200 cases.

I guess we can keep searching until all the designs are done and it's printing time.

OK, just measured 26 sheets of 140gsm silk coated stock is 4.5 mm
thick. I know 140gsm isn't too thick, but it's enough for our purposes.

I guess we will just go with as thick as can fit in the space maybe 180gsm? The landscape cases which the people have chosen are 9mm thick on the outside. I can't find an inside measurement just yet, but I'm guessing it will be about 5-6mm inside.

I know very little about the printing side of things ... so that's up to you and all the other print pros... I will go with whatever the majority wants.

That's sounding good, Buda, although I'm not a metric conversion whiz. I guess the next step will be to figure out how to allocate payment for the cases?

Any PayPal account whizzes out there, perhaps? I'm not really sure how this type of thing gets done. Drazan or Kool perhaps, would have some savvy on this matter?

Paypal is set up with a name, email address and account number to which the funds will eventually be "downloaded" to.

Paypal has internal tools that allow you to create a "donation" button that can be placed on a website. The code is automatically generated so that it can be copy and pasted.

Paypal also can generate the shopping cart buttons for when the calendars go up for sale. However since this is shipping around the world, a shoppping cart application may be better for tracking and automatic shipping calculations.

I'd be happy to manage it for someone. But I won't be able to use my own account for this. I'm slug full using paypal addys for my business ventures you are only allowed 5 per account).

I've been using paypal since 1998 and can walk anyone through things as well. I currently help manage 4 other paypal accounts other than my own.

I can set up the web page and or shopping cart or whatever else is needed as is requested.

Well, I can take it on, provided you could help me with the setup, Drazan. Maybe PM me with a nuts and bolts of what I'd be required to do?
