"choppy type"

The typeface on all fonts have become choppy or dirty; poor quality to say the least. Condition came about gradually.

Have gone to adobe support but difficult to get questioned asked let alone a simple answer.

Have reinstalled cs2 PSD & ai, but no improvement.

My thought is I have some preference or folder arrangement screwed up...as the initial setup was reset to defaults in attempt to solve the problem.

Any thoughts out there on this?

A few more details would help in the resolution of your question.

What operating system are you on? How are you saving these files (you mentioned Photoshop and Illustrator). What file format is the attachment or is that a screenshot?

Also, what font management program are you using? Are you using one at all? So many factors can play into this problem.

Ex 'n urst,

Windows XP.
Attachment was jpeg.
I save files in the programs where they were originally created.

Not using font manager of any kind.

Recently installed entire adobe cs which includes InDesign and just getting ramped-up on. I thought the condition would improve when I installed new programs. But no.

Unfortunately, I know very little about Windows when it comes to troubleshooting stuff of this nature, as I'm on a Mac. Hopefully someone with more experience in that area can come along and help you.

One other thought, however. That's not a zoomed in preview is it? It's best to look at things at 100% in Photoshop, not more. Sorry if I'm guessing incorrectly.

If you have the same problem with Illustrator and InDesign, however, then that's probably not the right answer.

That's because it is a jpeg? What if you save as a pdf and post on here?

It's zoomed at 33%.

Changed anti-aliasing from off to 100, normally at 32.

Fonts (all part on orig. programs) are this way in all programs including ai & InDesign. All look like fecal matter.

Thought this condition would be identified as some folder mismanagement on my part.

I'll post result (solution) of problem if one of you don't figure out first because this is a nighmare and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's pretty bad when you have to raster a font; then clip off the 'chips' to make it work for a clients logo.

I appreciate the time and thoughts on this.

Are you generally using Postscript fonts? Did you recently reorganize font folders or something like that?

That'll be next, to review and reorganize (per spec.) the fonts.
