Hi guys,
how do I go about getting a logo for my site?

I'm a complete novice and have just bought my very first site today (which was an ordeal in itself:eek: ) but i need a good logo to go with it - any ideas where i can get one from?

Thanks in advance, Kelly.

What do you mean by this? You bought some webspace or a domain name or you paid a designer to create website for you?

To have a logo designed for you, you can post an ad in the classified (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33) section of this forum. Please note this is for paying work only.

Give an idea of how much your budget is, what your business is and the deadline of the brief. An email address for designers to contact you directly would be good too.

Hi budafist,
thanks for the reply!
I bought my name & host and am in the middle of creating the site myself but I need a logo. Does anyone know the names of any good programmes I can use to design my own or any good sites that provide images I can use on my site - either for free or very cheaply.

Thanks,
Kel

www.istockphoto.com is a pretty cheap image site with good quality photos to use. Under $1 - $10 each but you need to buy credits.

www.morguefile.com has free images.

What programs do you have on your computer currently?

Logos are generally designed in Adobe Illustrator.

You forgot to mention what your business is...

If you wanna create a logo yourself Adobe Illustrator is good. To get some idea browse around and get inspired by other designer portfolios and identities they've created.

As far as images www.istockphoto.com (http://www.istockphoto.com/) is really cheap.

I've just had a fresh install on my comp so currently have nothing by the way of programmes, and all the links to sites I've found to be good were lost (comp got virus).

Sorry... lol... its a jewellery website I'm setting up

I need to create a banner for the top of each page with my website name on and find an image that suits my name for the front page - I'm thinking animation but had no experience of this and dont want the file size to be too big incase it puts off dial up customers.

I only really need one image / animation of a fountain for the main design so I dont want to have to subscribe to somewhere for 100 images when I just need the one. The rest of the images will be of actual stock etc.

Thanks for the links, will take a look and let you know how I get on

By the way if I get someone to design something for me how much would I be looking at?

I need my name stylised and a fountain pic or prefferably animation - nothing too fancy or detailed

We don't discuss pricing on the forum. However, if you are interested in getting quotes from people for designing your logo - post in the classifieds.

You will want to include a brief as to what your site is all about, your name to be included in the logo or design and what function your site does. If this is only for an personal presence or a more professional business site.

A real designer will help you with a solution of style, function and form. Designing something is more than just what looks good, it is a visual communication about what you want to present.

Having something "good enough" or "just looks good" is usually not going to help you have a sucessful site.

If this is just for a personal style site there's other things to look for.

The brief is a description of what the job entails.
