Okay so working in PS what is the shortcut for the move tool when you currently have the type tool selected? Its driving me nuts having to keep going over to the tool box!

Provided you aren't in the text box for the type anymore (if you are, exit it by hitting Enter on the number pad, not return on the keyboard), hit V, and that switches you to the move tool.

I don't think my husband would approve. I do appreciate the sentiment however. Glad I could help.
Here's a bonus: hold down Command (on the Mac) or Control (on the PC) with the move tool selected, and it will select the layer of the topmost pixel you click on.

Wait maybe they are two different things. Holding down command cycles through the different layers if they are on top of each other.(in illy)

Command in Illy doesn't cycle through layers, it cycles through stacked objects.
Personally, my favourite is still if you're on the text tool in Illy or Indy, and you hold down the command key, you get the move tool. Use that constantly.
Also, in Indy, no matter what tool you're on, holding down option+space will always give you the hand tool.

I've only been using InDesign for a bit over a year now. I have to say I love it. But one of my biggest pitfalls is getting out of text boxes. Because I was more used to Quark.
I know the shortcuts (that option+space is something I need to train myself to get in the habit of), but I've already warned the production manager, that if you find random v's, a's, or w's in a layout file, it's because we're all adjusting from Quark. :D She was all "Oh, is that what that's all about then?"

Yeah, when I first started using Indy, I left a lot of v's and a's around the place, too. Still, I like the shortcuts much better than Quark's. Since they match up with photoshop and illustrator's shortcuts, it's a lot less I need to remember. Plus, I always felt that Quark's shortcuts had been chosen by somoene with three hands ;)

Yup, I love the shortcuts in InDesign too for the same reason, Hewligan. I suspect I've been leaving less of the a's, v's and w's scattered around as I gain more experience. I've learned that Command-Shift-A is my friend now. It's almost becoming a reflex. :)
