hahaha. I used that blue header photo for a medical site once.
So, the site looks fine, but why flash for this one? It's not searchable, bookmarkable, seo friendly, or accessibile. THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO DO IT... oh god. Nevermind. I'm sorry for that.
I think you did a bangup job :)

Ya, i usually throw a design together in Flash for a quick view for the client. I can give the basic idea, and ad some roll over effects for them to see. once they aprove it i can integrate the design into and HTML format. I will admit, Flash is always more apealing to me, but I cant always have it my way right:rolleyes:

Just a suggestion! Try increasing the size of the text.
Whereas the design elements are nice and the background pattern is matching as well.

And try mixing both the elements flash as well as HTML...
This will help you a lot in SEO n all....but if you dnt care dnt bother 'bout seo.

i like it a lot, but i agree with the points about SEO, flash is rapidly become 'oldhat' these days, i made a website the other day using scriptaculous and the yui that basically could have passed for being flash, but without the SEO and usability worries, a well known site with scriptaculous effects is www.gucci.com (http://www.gucci.com) although they slip up a bit in some sections.
crikey, got a little carried away there, sorry!

How about we don't tell the op how he should be doing his work and just critique the design LIKE HE ASKED?

I dunno ecsyle, I see nothing wrong with a little advice on alternative methods of producing something, provided the result is the same. After all, if someone posted something for the print world and mentioned that they did the entire layout as a raster image out of Photoshop, I see nothing wrong with letting that person know that Photoshop is not ideal for print layout work where there's type and other vector stuff involved.
GDF is a place to learn as well as to showcase.

I agree with you Urstwile. Sometimes these small suggestions do help. (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/member.php?u=8254)

I understand that. This isn't the same thing. The OP just asked for a critique of the layout, not a critique of the website. Had he asked for a crituque of the site itself, then it would make sense to explain the pros of doing it with html, etc, instead of using flash.

True, but then maybe just put it up in showcase, instead?
I know you've got a bit of a sticky about this ecsyle. Just my two cents. We're all here to learn and improve. If it means greater success for the site because of better execution, I think that's a valid part of the critique. :) After all, design is also about communication, is it not? If no one finds your site because of bad SEO practices, then it's just a link on this forum. Rather than being found because it's also found by search engines.
I'm a web novice, by the way, so if I ever post anything up on here and someone wants to critique the code as well, have at it. I live to learn. :)
