Hi Tobias! First off, welcome to the forum.
I think the logo is great. I'm finding the top one with solid letters easier on the eyes. Only thing I would do different is leave the "Graphic Arts Magazine" text as all one size uppercase - not large & small uppercase. Also, the name GAMA isn't a true acronym of the words Graphic Arts Magazine so I wouldn't emphasize the G, A & M in with larger letters. Nice job!

I like the concept, but I'm not fond of the fonts you have used. Have you tried more...uh...sexy fonts?

Shouldn't Graphic Design Magazine Australia be GDMA?

Woops thats the one
GAMA = Graphic Arts Magazine Australia.
Yea i mucked around with a few fonts. out of all I found that one to have the best feel...i dunno, you guys are pretty much the target audience.
I agree with the first one being easyer of the eyes, and it would also work better in a photographic background. I'll have a play with it and post up what I end up with.
Thanks for the help!

I really like what you've done... the only bit that gets me is the M, as it looks like 4 separate lines - if you found a slightly heavier weight font, where the letterform was all one, it would be slighlty more legible as four letters, and not a creation of lines.
Does that make any sense?! P.S. I like the first one best too, and I agree, that wil work better on different backgrounds.

I know exactly what you mean but it was kind of the look i was after. Shapes that still made out the word GAMA. But still, you could be right.
This is what i have come up with, i thought seeing as its a magazine heading black and white won't really cut it when its placed among a sea of colours from other magazines, so i added a bright eye catching colour to one of the letters, took a but of playing around to get a colour i likes and where that colour was going to be on the logo.

Although this logo isnt really set in stone, its basically what it will be when its done.
Thanks for your help people!

The new colour is nice in the logo, but on a mastheas, particularly if the magazine cover is busy, you may find that it isn't needed.

I like the concept. Somehow I'm not happy with the Trajan, even in all caps. Partly it's the kerning, which needs evening out (especially in "graphic"), and partly it's that it isn't exactly flush with the upper section at each end. But I think you'd get a better integration and still keep the contrast you're going for with a sans serif at, say, 30% gray.
Hey Tobias, I like the font choices, the crop, the color, and the angle. Looks great and works well. My hang-up is the GAMA over the "Graphic Arts Magazine" - - - I need the Australia! I do a lot of gov work and it is all about acronyms - but they have to bee complete to work for t Have fun!he reader.
Did you try anything with the gray text for the GAMA? Or any primary color designs? Your choice of colors could enhance the design to reflect an "upscale" clientele or a "modernistic" client - or whatever. Color can add a little more character to your solid design. Have Fun!

Exactly my issue with it, Hub. The logo is great, but I don't read it as anything Australia. I read "Graphic Arts Magazine" and just assume its an acronym above it. I think it would be stronger if you added something in that would support the full name of the organization. You also need to support the top and lower halves with a tie-in. The orange of the A should be a cue to the wording. I did a quick mock-up that will give you an idea of what I'm talking about...

Note: I didn't have the correct font for the two orange words, so I improvised.

I'll keep just the just "art" orange though, or keep it black. Wanted to emphesise the "art" in it.

I'm not feeling the whole sans serif font vs. serif font to be honest... try using the same font you used for GAMA through out the entire logo.
