I've been searching around trying to figure out how to do this. Say I have a list of links with a main category and then the subsequent links below it (looking like the example below)
Main Link
› Sub Link
› Sub Link
› Sub Link
Is there html, css or java script that can make that list expand and collapse by clicking on the "main link"
I've seen it done before I just don't know if it takes some kind of serverside scripting or something else more complicated then css/html/javascript

Nothign more complicated than html/css/javascript.
I've been using this lately http://moofx.mad4milk.net/ (the "accordian effect")
It degrades nicely with javascript turned off, the full navigation list will appear for those people.

There's some very cool things you can do to customize the menu's and navigation available from Milonic.com. It's worth buying the licence to get updates and free support. You might find what you're looking for in one of their standard menu templates, or you can make it look and function how you want from their guides or forums.
