First person with 5 correct answers wins...all the steez of the title of Font Challenge Champion!

"All serifs are too hard" you say? Quit whinging and fine tune your observation skills to sniff out the differences between these 5 serif fonts.

Number one looks like Mrs. Eaves. Still working on the other 4. :)

All 3 so far correct Urst :)

I figured I'd wait until I got the other two in the same post. It's probably annoying to have all these separate answers, which didn't occur to me at first. :)

Very fun idea IMO.

That's ok, glad you like this game, no one else seems to!

I'll do an easier one next time round. And for next round all answers to be in 1 post so that it's clear who is the winner.

New Rule: Winner has to have all 5 answers in 1 post for checking - otherwise I imagine that if there were lots of people playing this game it would get messy.

Good thinking!

Can I presume it's okay to use myfonts or other sources to doublecheck our answers, or are we supposed to just name the fonts? In summary, is this an openbook test? :D

Openbook test for sure!

Openbook means that those who aren't pros can learn more about fonts by participating in these games :) And in the end, it's all about learning about fonts.

Woot! :)

Edit: Number 3 and 5 are drivin' me a little crazy right now, I keep thinking some kind of Caslon because of the ampersand with its little bowed out curve there.

yeowch, I'm not nearly as good at font recognition. Once I know one, it's committed to the vault... but the ones that make it that far are few and far between.

I wish I had the knack for it like you do, urstwile!

What I've found is that the way to get good at it is through practice. I used to have to do it all the time for work, back in the day when there were still typeshops.

I feel so rusty at it now. And there are so many fonts out there! It's hard to keep track of them all. I think it'd be cool for all of us if we could use this thread as a way to a) keep in shape that way and b) see new fonts that we might not see in our regular day to day.

Good idea, Buda. :)

3's Adobe Garamond, isn't it? That has the bowed out curve on the ampersand.

As for 5, I have no idea.

You got 3 right Hewligan!

So now it's a race to the finish line for number 5!

One thing about Garamond is that open "4".

I knew it was *a* Garamond, but it wasn't until Urst mentioned the bowed ampersand that I figured out *which* Garamond. There are a few hundred of them...

5 looks like Cochin.

Oh, I have, but I've only figured out two of them. So, nothing to post until I get the remaining three - or someone else does.

Good, that way it's fair (so that you can't see anyone else's answers).
