Hi,
Its my first post here not sure whether its right place to ask this question, actually I would like to ask that how much time should be allowed to do approximately 100 page annual report by one designer from scratch and from last year design. Hope you guys understand what I mean, actually I have been asked to produce aprox 100 page annual report within a week either new or by using last year report file, do you think its reasonable thing to be asked by my employer? Many thanks for your advice.
Best Regards
AJ

Welcome to the forum AJ.
There isn't going to be a black & white answer to this question. It depends upon a lot of things. When I estimate time for projects like this, I figure how much average time per page then multiply it.
If you use last years file, how much will be changing? If not much is changing, it might only take an average of 15 minutes per page. On the other hand if you're starting from scratch and need to come out with a new theme for the annual report, your per page average will increase dramatically. It also depends upon your personal experience level, accuracy and speed. Take into consideration your other job obligations during that period also.
I think it probably isn't feasible to do a total redesign for 100 page annual report in a week. Last years file with minor changes would be totally feasible though. If your estimate doesn't fit within the one week time period, I would approach my employer not in a "not a reasonable thing to ask of me" attitude but rather "this is an important piece reflecting the brilliance of our company made to impress people. I can not possibly achieve this in one week. I can do this in ___ amount of time."
Good luck to you!

Many thanks for your feedback, yes I absolutely agree with you. but situation is bit different, they told me that they going to use agency this time, and now suddenly come back to me, because I have just handed over my resignation, and leaving the company in 3 weeks, so they probably want to get as much as they can out of me, and I am also dealing with so many other requests at the same time. As I am not sure either its feasible or not, that’s why I think in this situation little bit attitude should work, although they know very well last year I did 84 page report in about 3 weeks time.

When you say 3 weeks, do you mean it was done in 3 weeks or that it too you 3 weeks at 8 hours per day?
I mean, I have jobs that drag over months, but that's not to say that I was sitting at my computer for 3 months doing that 1 job y'know?
Since you have done the job before, work out how many hours (not weeks) it took you last time and figure it out from there.

I mean 3 weeks with 8 hours a day, including normal tasks, starting from simple brief and handed over to printer within 3 weeks time, that’s include updates, amendments and couple of concepts as well.

you might be pushing it with all the corrections and everything at one week but like balou said, it is possible. you'll need to stay on it, though. but if you're having to come up with new images or layouts or graphics, it's really going to be tough to make that deadline.

I believe it's absolutely possible. Recently I did 8 PDSs in one week. I didn't do initial design, but set up all master pages, all Pragaraph Syles etc. 3 of them had around 90 pages and had lots of tables and graphs. Other 3 were thinner (around 40 pages), but included Investment managers tables and pie charts (32) that I did in Illustrator. And 2 simple ones around 40 pages. I worked 8 hours a day. Well, it was 1st round and later took some time for minor changes and revisions.
Sure, I am very fast (no modesty), but 100 pages in a week or 3 weeks... you have plenty of time for revisions:).
