Oh man, this is a great one.
We have a client who called and complained they weren't getting any calls from their recent mailing. So they asked us what phone number we were using on the card, and it was a number that they told us to use at the last minute.
So they say "nooo!! that's not the number!!"
Well first of all, the rep who handled this job in particular did not get a hardcopy sign off and faxed like she is supposed to, just approval over email. So we can't prove that this was the number they approved. Secondly, this is a new client that we are hoping to do repeat business with.
So we're like, oh crap, the sales rep probably messed something up....yet again, and she doesn't have a signed off copy to prove we got the right number.
So my boss is pissed because we're about to lose a 10K job, I'm pissed because I know I did what I was supposed to and the job still got messed up. I go to check my emails just to double check to make sure I didn't miss the number I was supposed to use, while my boss dumps the remaining 3000 postcards into the recycle dumpster.
fast forward 20 minutes. Sales rep comes back says the company called back and that was the right number, but they had it configured wrong so it was only working as a voicemail or something like that....
Garbage truck drives away with the 3000 dumped postcards.
Anyone who doesn't believe in murphy's law, explain that one.

It must be the overall karma of the printing world balancing out for Matt's miracle (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24712&highlight=Exciting+News)

Aw man! That's priceless! Did your boss run down the road after the garbage truck shouting "Nooooooo!!!!" and waving his cap in the air?

heh, yeah, seriously. I told him not to come in tomorrow with an assault rifle and shoot us all. He said we'd be lucky if he even comes in.

On the bright side, once you've all finished crying/punching walls/plotting to kill your co-workers you do have an awesome anecdote.
I mean, it's not much of a bright side, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, he shouldn't have tossed them out so fast, but he was just so pissed because so many things have been going wrong because of the sales department lately that I think it was more just something he did to let some steam off...
proved to be a pretty expensive stress reducer but oh well.

I've had this happen to me at least 3 different times, where the client provided a tel# that had a digit transposed and the tel # just happend to be an adult sex line!!

yeah i think it might have been cheaper for your boss to get one of those squeezy head guys where you squeeze the head and the eyes and ears bug out. those are supposed to help relieve stress. i'd suggest that to him right away. let me know how that goes.

When we (me and my lil sis) were little (under 7 years), one of the things our parents played with us because they thought was cute, Mum and Dad would pretend that when we fluttered our eyelashes that they would get electricuted with our prettiness. They would have a spasm and fall over in mock-shock.
Yes, I come from an odd family.
