I have a client that is interested in making a new invoice with the company logo and info on top of the page. Has anyone ever done this type of work? I was just wondering the specs on it...like what format do you take to the printer.
What computer software do they use for their banking? This would be the first thing to check into. No matter what you make the invoice look like you will want it to match their software.
If they do not use software then you can do it however you like.
The format you take to the printer will depend on how you are having it "printed". Is it going to actually be printed on a press or copied on a copier? Either way you would want to contact the printer/copier for their specs.
Check to see what software your customer is using to print the invoices from and play around with the software first to see if it has any limitations as to where you can place things. I only did this once and in my experience the "design interface" in the accounting program was not user friendly. It was kind of a pain in the ass taking your design and then attempting to make it conform with what the program will let you do. Even if you are working from a previous template some adjustments may be needed on their end to line everything up correctly.
Format wise an indy or quark file will be fine but talk to your printer.

the easiest way to do it is get a copy of their generic invoice that their specific software prints and than use that to restrict your design. It takes a little trial and error but measuring things out and keeping it simple go a long way.
