Anybody here have a G5 or handled a G5? You know how solid the construction is. Thing is built like a tank. Well we just got one of our G5's shipped to us today only 30 miles, totally smashed up. It was even in a Apple system box which alone takes a tremendous amount of pressure to bust up. The case is literally falling apart now and the alum handles are bent inward. It's unreal! You can literally stand on top of those handles... I have done it. I can't imagine what FEDEX could have done to cause this much damage. The machine won't boot up now of course.

the worst part... the person who shipped it didnt insure it... /emoticons/oops.gif

Ewwwe yeah thats fkd up!! Atleast you don't have to worry about paying for anything! But..that does mean you have to wait for another computer....ewee!! I can't imagine what they did either. Carelessness....just carelessness!! ;o)

I am at ends with FedEx myself. I had to wait for my Adobe CS packages....3 weeks....THREE FRIGGIN WEEKS!!!!!!!! Should have been 2 days!! Nooo......so of course I had to call them like every friggin day, so I would have something to tell the bossman BEFORE he asks me the status! It's here now tho..and the bossman is gone for 2 weeks! YAY!

Good luck with the shipping on the new one! If its only 30 miles...might wanna make the trip yourself.....ROFL ;o)

If FedEx and UPS were to merge, would the new company be called FedUp?

I told someone to get a fedex rep in here. Even though the person who shipped it did not properly insure it... the last thing the fedex guy wants to do is piss off a million dollar shipping account. This is not a matter of bad packing or a fragile package. The damage it took to do this is = to abuse/negligence.

Oh and we ship it because of 2 things. This is NJ to NYC. 30 miles takes 2 hours. Also it's not worth the time to have somoene drive it. I'd rather pay a shipper/courier $80 then pull someone to drive this over and back 4 hours + gas + car wear and tear. Besides, tolls are $10, gas prices around here are a crime at $2.75/gallon.

$2.75!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG. That is robbery. I thought the $1.90 around here was bad.

Dam I'm in NY and Gas prices are not $2.75 what are you going to full service everytime man. Tolls are another thing but wouldn't a local mesanger service do that in a few hours for $30 bucks?

to chime in, UPS Stinks, to. One time I had a package OVERNIGHTED and it didn't get to me cause there was trouble with 'THE plane' they said.

I said, um, it's OVERNIGHT for a reason (It was court papers I needed to go to court with on a Monday, and it was supposed to be delivered by 10AM Friday)

I said to them, 'you only have one plane?'

USPS is the only one I haven't had trouble with. they are just a bit behind the times..

but they sell cool Disney stamps....

Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?!

Benjo that is manhattan gas prices. NYC manhattan and other parts of NY are totally different. I have seen the price of REGULAR within the last 6 months up to $2.89/gallon in manhattan! Also NYC, like NJ may be all full serve only. I have never seen any self serve gas stations in manhattan but I could be mistaken. As soon as you leave manhattan though, most of NY is self serve. In NJ, it is required by law to be full service only. Pumping your own gas in NJ is illegal.

LMAO @ Magnus, that crap was funny.

Dam darkels 2.75+. Man I'd cross the 59th street bridge cause on Queens blvd it's not full service and for that price a quick ten minute detour is fine with me.

I never pumped my Gas in Manhatten so I'll take your word for it.

The important thing here is... is Fedex paying for that G5?

dakels
08-12-2004, 01:06 AM
lol magnus

I dont know if Fedex will pay for the damages yet. They legally dont have to since it was not insured for the proper value. I am having my account rep push for some sort of compensation, at least partial. Not that this company can't afford it, it's a matter of principle.

and Benjo: I dont drive in manhattan ever. Too expensive with crazy tolls, gas, parking, etc. Its not hard to spend $50 to have your car in manhattan for one day. When I moved to the city, I kept a car for 2 months. $900+ in parking fees later, I sold it cheap to a friend. I'd say about less then 10% of the manahattan population owns a car. Subways are faster and much cheaper. I do miss driving around the countryside though. I may get motorcycle again. That's much easier to park. I can even winter store it in a self storage place.

Boobie Island and Busty!

I don't live in NYC but to be honest I no can do without a car. Nope I need it but then again we don't have a subway system out here that for 70 bucks takes you around the city for a month. Dam only $70.00, we need public transportation out here.

Where in New York do you live. I got an interview on 5th downtown on Tuesday but even if I get the job I'm only moving to Queens. Still alot of stuff I need to do out in LI to be having to push my way past the NYC traffic I need an easy escape route.

I actually just moved to the Exchange Place area of Jersey City 2 months ago. Its directly across the water. It's funny. I am in another state but I can get to manhattan faster, and live closer to downtown, then any of the boroughs outside manhattan. Not to mention it's 10x prettier and safer then Harlem, Brooklyn or BX. I live right near the water. I work in Manhattan 36th and 6th ave and also 23rd st. My company has over 10 different offices though, 7 in manhattan, 2 in NJ, 1 in LA, 1 in Honk Kong, and possibly soon London, Milan, and India. It takes me 15 mintes to get to work (25 min door to door) and guess what I pay in commuting? $24/month hahaha soon to be cheaper too since I will get a card through my company. Downside is my rent is $2000/month... :(

here are some pics of where I live.
I livein a house right next to that big condo rise on the left.

Whew...2k a month...sheeese!! Maybe you should look into buying dakels? Then again - its prolly alot there to do that too right?!!

Boobie Island or Bust!

LOL! Yea imagine buying right by the bay. Holy crap you have to be trump to do something like that.

Darkels I just found this out and I'm wondering if it applies to you. Do you have to pay both NYC taxes and NJ taxes from your paycheck? I know someone that works in Connecticut and he has to do this.

Jersey is fine but I wouldn't move out there yet. I don't know honestly cause if I do get something out in NYC and my wife will be going to school in Tribecca then who knows. All of us men know that we loose complete control of our decisions once our wife disagrees. Especially with homes…

My wife still wants to move down to Florida but I don’t even have enough money to fend off one month out there so we stayed here but I have a big feeling once she finishes her BA that it’s a wrap for NY for us.

Nice photos by the way.

My place isnt even all top notch for the area either, even for that money. It is very nice but the super nice joints run $3k/month and higher for big luxury lofts and brownstones. I can't afford to buy around here cuz places start at a $million+. When I am ready to buy I will probably buy in Montclair. Great artsy suburb 30 minutes west very well connected to NYC. It's a fairly well known town due to its population of alot of artists, actors, musicians, etc.

You should consider the area though Benjo. Getting to tribeca takes me all of 15 minutes and costs $1.50. You can get some decently priced stuff that is not as close to the water. There are plenty of nice 2 bedrooms for $1200-1600. Very nice brownstones around here too.

D - there are cheaper places all around NYC area. But $800 will either get you a closet, or a 1 bedroom in an ugly unsafe area. Let's put it this way, my 105 lbs girlfriend can walk safely around my neighborhood at 3am in a tight miniskirt. I'd be kinda mad if she were… but I wouldn’t have to worry about her safety :P

ROFLMFAO @ dakels!! haha!

Things are apparently a good bit cheaper here down South...in some areas I guess. Savannah is a lil more expensive that other areas in GA. Like my new house for example...I paid..umm $105k for it..back home at my dads...I could get the exact same thing on the same size lot (which is REALLY small) for $75k...but they get paid less there too...I guess it all comes down to the cost of living in ones area.

oh and p.s. yes I get double taxed :(
The good thing is that I can get a refund of most of the tax I pay for one state. I did alot of freelance/contract work this year so I got a good accountan. I am gonna go crazy with deductions. I'll write off my liver if I can pay less taxes. I'll say it suffered trauma from drinking too much on business dinners.
