Earlier on, after an extended period of internet surfing, I went to get a cup of char. When I returned, I found a windows update waiting to be downloaded. Of course I downloaded it, but when it did so, a dialogue box came up proclaiming it was installing windows vista!

Of course this strikes fear into my heart considering the huge resources vista eats which is way beyond what my modest laptop can handle.

You can imagine my horror when my desktop (and a bunch of unsaved documents) blanked out and up came a vista style desktop.

I looked at it thinking what the ***** has just happened, but soon found out that my housemate rob had played a prank on me.

GIT

You can launch all kinds of pranks like this on peoples computers, and make them think they've lost all their work or documents or just torment them.

Go to http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/ if you really want to wind someone up. :D

That's terrible, bazzle... Absolutely terrible...

...and a good reason to password protect entry to your system. :D

on a note of caution: some "pranks" may also download hidden trojans and other malware.

just saying.

I downloaded the one that makes your mouse curser flip you the finger and ran the antivirus on it before launching like I do with everything I download. Came up as a medium risk file. Guess I'm not pranking my bf.

Yeah, if it was anyone other than Rob, i probably wouldn't have seen the funny side. Besides that, any more trojans would only add to the 50 or so viruses that already infect my system.

We used to do that crap all the time on the old Mac systems.
Geeks.
It's not allowed where I work now.

I haven't thought about the trashcan critter in a long time. I miss that little guy. He'd lift the lid and look out every once in a while. Scared the bejeezus out of one of my coworkers. LMAO!

Meltdown, BackWords, and PC Desktop were priceless too. I took a tech class once where the instructor would purposely put those things (and not so nice things) into our test comps to teach us troubleshooting skills. I don't think he meant for us to take the scripts home with us on floppies. Besides those little scripts, it's amazing what a wad of paper or a disconnected cable will do... }8}

You know what's really fun? Go into one of the computer labs with all of the computers lined up in a row and randomize the tower-to-monitor cables. I was terribly dissapointed in my school when they upgraded to new shiny imacs so I couldn't do that anymore.
